I didn't need copies.  I handed whoever the original and they made copies.

what about your passport? do you have to mail an original one?
  • edited December 2011
Yes, you have to mail an original one or certified copy for your passport.  You can request certified copies from the same place you obtained your marriage license.

I plan to just send my original for my passport... I sent them my original birth certificate and it came back just fine.

so you can request copies after you get the orginal?

Yep, in Dallas I believe they were $8 each.

ETA: Here is the website with instruction for Dallas.  If you got it in another county they may have a similar site.

I didn't get copies for anything. Everything either accepted me just showing them the original, or faxing a copy.

With the passport, I had to get a certified copy like Tiffany was saying, at the same place we obtained the original license. They only accept certified copies.

ETA: We got ours from Denton county, and I believe the certified copy was $10, but they give it to you right there on the spot. No waiting.
I also got our marriage license back within a week after the wedding! It was wonderful!

Bridget - Did you happen to get your passport within the last year?   If so, the name change is free.

    no :(

i travel alot (for fun) so i've had my passport for awhile. i need to get it asap after the wedding cause we are going to france most likely in the spring. plus it does make going through the airport faster even if you are just travelling within the states.

You can request to get expedited service if you need it quickly. Not sure if that costs extra.

We're going to Europe in the spring, too! :)

i think i will be fine if i do it right after the wedding. where are you going? we are going to visit his family that lives there. probably take a day or two and spend it in paris, but mostly visiting family in the countryside.

We're going to London, just to go. DH has been to lots of different parts of Europe several times, I've never been. We also want to make a 2nd trip later in the year, to Scotland.

i have to laugh every time i see your pic! i LOVE your pic, but i laugh because technically it is illegal to take pics on the railroad tracks ;)

Really!?!? hahahaah...well, DH and I have never been one to follow the rules :)

Guess our photographer didn't know that either, or he didn't care! One or the other!

yeah, our photographer got busted recently (and he wasn't even doing it at the time!). the cops told him they had seen his blog and website and will be checking up on him and if they see any new pics - he'll get in trouble - the fine is alot of money!!!!!

when you live in a small town, the cops have nothing else better to do! i LOVE the way the railroad tracks photos look though. we had some engagement photos done under the bridge that crossed over the tracks but had to stay clear of the tracks themselves (see sig pic - that is what the graffatti was).

Oh crap! I wonder if I should warn Kevin...maybe he should take them off his blog?! But I have no idea why a cop would be looking at his blog, or be that much of an @ss to care or fine him. They would have to be a real pr!ck!!

    Ugh...sorry, I can't stand cops!
