When to throw the shower??

Help! I’m matron of honor (and the bride’s cousin), and I need some help with shower planning. Where: Northern OhioWedding date: Aug. 31, 2013Different Cousin’s wedding date: May 25, 2013Bachelorette: July 4th weekend Future MIL of the bride has offered to book and reserve venue for the large shower I am throwing next year. Unfortunately I have to choose a date and time NOW, and I can’t decide which logic is best in decided the shower date. There are wedding events planning for May, July, and August. If I book the shower in June, that will be 4 months in a row of travel for many of the guests. I’m sure I’m not the only one who will have to skip events due to cost and time, with that much stuff going on. Northern OH is cold during winter/spring so if I have the shower too early I run the risk of a snowy, cold, dreary shower day. If I try to cram the shower in too late there will be too much stuff going on in the summer, and people won’t be able to attend – including me! The majority of the invites are from out of town. Should I:A) throw the shower in March or April – risk the bad weather and just make the party cheery? This will give people a cushion of time before the wedding events start in May. Or B) throw the shower in June – risk people missing the shower completely, due to the weddings surrounding it? Or C) throw the shower the day or two before the wedding. Because people will be traveling anyway, might as well just get it down right then. If I take care of the details the bride won’t have to worry about the shower, and it can serve as brunch/lunch for those family members who are not invited to the rehearsal dinner.

Re: When to throw the shower??

  • Showers are usually thrown 2 months in advance.  I think March is too early.  I would do June.  You can't really plan on the what ifs as in will people skip it etc.  People may not make it in March or on any other date for that matter.

  • Why don't you have it during the same weekend as the bachelorette party but on a different day? That way people will already be in town.

<div>this is what we are doing. wedding is 22nd the bachelorette party is weekend before...and the shower is the Thursday before. Even though it seems like alot close together it was the only way to include alot of our family from out of town. it's gonna be hectic though!! </div>
