XP: Opening Cards at your Shower?

Hello ladies I also posted this on my local board, but you guys always give such great answers!

Just curious...do you open the cards you receive at yur shower?  Like ones that aren't attached to gifts, but probably have money or gift cards in them?

Is it rude?

My first shower is next weekend, and I have no idea what the rules are regarding this!

Gracias!

Yes, you should open all gifts and cards. Just read the card to yourself and let everyone know who it's from. If it's money, just say they gave you some money (don't mention the amount) and it's a gift card say what store it's to, again not mentioning the value. You still want the gift giver to see you open their gift and receive a thanks, but you don't ever want to announce how much someone gave you.

Yes, I opened several cards at my shower which surprised me because I always thought of showers as being for boxed gifts off the registry. Some of the cards had money in them and others had gift cards to the stores we were registered at. I just read outloud who they were from and thanked the person and had my MOH write down what it was so I could properly thank them in my thank you notes.

I agree with PP. If a gift card maybe mention "Oh we can use this towards...." I personally don't care for reading to myself or watching someone read to them selves but it is understandable to do so (as it may be weird to read to a room of folks. So maybe saying what you can use their gift card towards would keep ppl involved and make the gift giver feel good because you have a plan to use it.  I am having a super small shower so I am thinking of reading out loud cuz it is just my aunts.
