Who throws the shower for you?

Hi Ladies,

I know that I have heard that traditionally your future Mother in law throws a bridal shower for you, but what if she says no? Then who throws it for you? Someone mentioned that the brides parents do, but since my parents are paying for my wedding, I feel like its a little silly having them spend more money and throw me a bridal shower.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: Who throws the shower for you?

  • Anyone can throw you a shower--it does not have to be a certain person and a lot of wedding "traditions" have changed over the years, point in case.

Whatever you do, DO NOT throw your own shower or even ask about who may or may not be throwing you one.  It is uncouth.

  • Whoever offers to throw a shower for you throws a shower for you.  You do not ask anyone to throw you a shower.  If no one offers, you don't get a shower.

  • It is not traditionally the MOG's role to throw you a shower.  She can if she wants to, but she has no obligation to.  If someone offers to throw you a shower then great!  If no one does, then there is no shower.
  • "Traditionally" the MOH and BMs throw a shower for you.

If they do not step up, or if someone else wants to, they can throw a shower for you.

If no one steps up, you do not have a shower.

Why do you ask by the way?
