Hats, hats, hats!

My aunt is throwing my bridal shower.  Yesterday my aunt, mom and I were shopping and decided to try on big, "royal" hats.  We were having a great time and my aunt came up with an idea.  She is having my shower at a tea room and she thought it would be fun if everyone wore hats at the shower.  My mom and I both love the idea and think our family and friends will have a good time with it.  We're wondering, how does my aunt word the invitations to let people know they are welcome to wear hats?  Thanks!

Not everyone owns hats.  I would be hesitant to request that people wear/bring something they may not already own because I wouldn't want them to feel like they have to go out and buy it.  You might want to make it hat optional.  Just my two cents.

Sorry, I don't think I worded that very clearly.  We want people to know they have the option to wear hats but of course it's not required.

It's a very cute idea, however I think the problem is that lots of people don't own these types of hats!

Why don't you pick up a few fun, different hats for the ladies to wear during the party? They can take them home as a favor if they like - otherwise, keep it for next Halloween.

So that you're not spending a fortune, check Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Kohls, etc. for hats.

"welcome to wear hats" sounds optional to me =)

I would just put that on the invite, "In the spirit of British High Tea, please feel welcome to wear a fabulous hat"

Take a picture of you in the "royal-ish" hat, have the host put it on the invite, and write something along the lines of "welcome to wear hats" (maybe something a little catchier than that though)

Thanks ladies,  I think this sounds perfect!  My great aunt has a lot of hats from her younger days that she said we can put out for people to borrow, or to dress up the place.
