So I will start off by saying that I know that it's somewhat traditional to give the bride lingerie at a bridal shower. However, this situation is just kind of... all around awkward to me.
FMIL and FSIL threw a co-ed wedding shower for me and FI over the weekend. It was mostly FI's side of the family (our guest list is very large, so my family is doing a second shower in January), some of FILs' friends, and then my immediate family (parents, sister, grandparents). One of FMIL's friends, who I don't think I've ever met (I may have met her once before, but I'm thinking the shower was the first time I'd met her) got me some pretty scandulous lingerie. Now, I'm not totally prude or anything, but it was super uncomfortable because a) I don't know this woman and she's buying me sexytime clothes, b) there were men at the shower, and c) three of those men were my dad, grandpa, and FFIL.
I would have given her the benefit of the doubt that she didn't know it was co-ed, except that it was clearly stated in the invitation, and she came with her daughter and son-in-law. And even if she didn't know it was co-ed, I would feel really awkward buying lingerie for someone I don't even know. Needless to say, it's in the wrong size, and it's from a company I've never heard of, so I probably won't be able to exchange/return it anyway.
Anyway, I'm pretty much over the embarassment of my dad seeing me hold up a pink and black teddy and thong set :P my question is, how the heck to I word the thank you note? If it had been from one of my girlfriends, I'd have no issue of putting something about packing it up for my honeymoon or something to that effect. But I don't know this woman, and would prefer to not even casually hint at my sex life to her. She got me some bath stuff from Victoria's Secret too... can I just put something simple about "thank you for the lingerie and the bath set. can't wait to see you at the wedding!"? and, obviously, thank her for coming to the shower.
sorry this was long. any feedback is appreciated. I think I just needed to tell the story too! it caught me so off-guard!
