Bridal shower for destination wedding?

My fiance and I live in Arizona.  We are having a destination wedding in Mexico with immediate family and very few close friends (30 people total including us and our 3 kids).   We are also throwing 2 receptions when we get back from the wedding.  One in WI (where I'm from and most of my family), and one in AZ for all of our friends.  These will not be backyard receptions, we are renting out venues...

One of my friends is offering to throw me a Bridal Shower, but I've read that it is tacky to invite people to this who are not invited to the actual wedding.  My friend throwing the shower is not invited to Mexico, and understands that we have to keep that very small.

Is it bad ettiquite to have a shower in my situation?

Re: Bridal shower for destination wedding?

  • If she understands the situation and still wants to throw you one, I think that's fine. But you can still only invite people who are invited to the wedding.

You've read correctly. Only people you've invited to the wedding (the ceremony) should be invited to teh pre-parties.
Honestly, and some girls will disagree with me, but I'd turn down the offer from this girl altogether. She isn't invited to the wedding, so she's included in that list.

  • I would decline. I'm having a ceremony with no guests and have turned down two offers of showers by family members.
