wedding shower gift/wedding gift help

If someone is invited to the shower and they give a gift, then at the wedding are they going to give another gift? Or is the shower the time they give their wedding gift? I understand that gifts are not mandatory....I'm just an inquiring mind that couldn't find the answer on ask Carly.

I usually buy a gift from the registry for the shower and give a card with $$ for a wedding gift.

Not everyone feels the same way about this issue.  Some guests will only give a gift for the shower, but I know that I personally would get a gift for both.  There's no way to really expect what people will do when it comes to gifting!

Ditto MariePoppy, I usually bring a gift off the registry to the bridal shower and give cash at the wedding.

Most of the women who attended my bridal shower and brought a gift off the registry to that, gave $$ as a gift at the wedding, but one of my aunts and a few others gave a gift off the registry at the wedding as well.

This is something that I've heard varies by area or social circle.

I tend to give a medium-sized shower gift and a larger wedding gift.

Some people give a physical gift for the shower and then tend to give cash for the wedding.

I've heard of some circles where it's customary to give a very large shower gift and then give a small or no wedding gift, but this is not common in my crowd.

Wedding etiquette standards say you have up until a year after the wedding to give a gift, so you may even get some gifts after the wedding. But with online registries people don't really do that anymore... just old people. :)

I like to do a big gift at the shower and a small gift (sent to their HOME, not brought to the wedding!) for the wedding, but if I'm part of the wedding I only do a shower gift.

It's going to be different with everyone, especially by region!

I do a gift for both with the shower gift usually being smaller.

    >>I give something small off the registry for the shower (like baking pans) and something larger for the wedding (such as place setting of their china).

    This.

Unless the shower is a BRIDAL shower instead of a WEDDING shower.  In the case of a BRIDAL shower, the gifts are just for the bride, like perfume or a nice sweater or a divider thing for her car trunk or a chck-lit book.  And then the wedding present would be something for the COUPLE off of the registry.
