I think it's a huge double standard and show of favoritism at my company that an executive assistant can come in here today and wear a sleevless dress with 2 inch straps-yet I have to sit up front and wear a suit and jacket every friggin day.  She, along with every other person in this office, has the possibility of seeing clients and yet what she's wearing is "appropriate"??  WTH?  Yet another reason why I need to get the hell out of here.

I feel icky.  I just want to crawl in bed and go back to sleep.

I don't like not knowing what my schedule is da to day since the director is out.  I am flattered they trust me in the office to open and close and handle all that, but I miss my kiddos.  I know when I am back they are going to be CRAZY.

Mariah, that sucks.  I am so sorry.  That would frustrate me too.

Brad has an after-cancer doctor's appointment today. This one is with his orthopedic surgeon. They're going to check out his hip (which he had surgery on 3 years ago), plus his shoulder and knees. When he had cancer, they had him on steroids and the steroids effected his bone density. My poor hubby is only 23 and already looking at possibly having a hip replacement in the next 10 or so years.

Oh and Mariah, I know exactly how you feel. I got reprimanded a while back for how I dressed, and the next day saw quite a few people wearing what I was told not to. The head honchos can get away with it, but not us lowly admin! Yell

Work place drama kills me!!! Why can't everyone be held to the same standards? And why if you have something to say about why I got the opportunity to train to do another position do you then have to go behind my back and say how much experience I don't have. People at my office think they know so much about me - there is the exact reason why you don't know I have 7 years of medical experience...you talk too much - and yes I am qualified for the position at my "young, tender age." I'm so sorry I don't sit on my a** and expect things to fall in my lap - if I want it, I go after it.
Exactly how I got my FI, lol Wink

Mariah - sorry....I know how frustrating that can be!!!

Ugh, the preliminary appraisal values came out for Denton County.  Our house is valued at $25,000 more than we paid for it, so it looks like I will be protesting that.  I'm hoping the process isn't too complicated.

I am having some test run Friday to see why am having this horrible pain in my stomach and they admitted my step-dad into the hospital today because he is fighting cancer and now has an infection that isn't going away.  WAY too much stress on me at home and work and planning the wedding.  Need a night out to forget and relax for a bit!!!

I went to that Salvation Army Chic Boutique this morning.  The line was crazy.  The wedding dresses were mostly old-fashioned so I don't think anyone missed anything there.  By the time I got in at 10:20ish, there were no good shoes or jewelry left.  They did have some cute clothes.  I walked away with a cute Halston (I heart Halston!) slip dress and a Cynthia Steefe crop jacket all for $45.  Not too bad.

I guess if anyone goes next year get there before 9:00.  I got there at 9:15 and was about 75th in-line I'd say.

Steph, both Ben and I have done the appraisal protest.  Make sure you get comps from your area showing their value as compared to yours.  Also research what  comparable homes in your area sold for recently.  Half the time, they just pick houses at random to increase the values of.  Ben said his next door neighbor in his condo's values just went up when condos in his building are selling at tens of thousands lower than that (his included!).

I'm going to finally stand up for myself at work.  I've emailed my office manager and I'm going to tell her how I feel about the whole dress code at work.  I'm not sure what will happen and I'm sure somehow I'll be made to feel like I'm in the wrong for being upset but I've been letting this go for over 2 1/2 years.  It's time I took a stand.  Not just for me, but for other co-workers who are also upset about it.

I'm still baffled at how your boss can undermine(mime?) you....He is your superior...that is not undermining! Especially when what you are trying to get involved with, you have absolutely NO connection with anyways! You're just mad you didn't get your way and I had the balls to speak up about what is *REALLY* going on in this process you have no idea about except for the very small discussion you eavesdropped on between me and another coworker. Although I must say, you think the cold shoulder hurts my feelings? I actually enjoy it. Cool

    Steph,

The value protest process with Denton County is pretty easy.  We just did it last year.  I wrote them a letter stating what I thought the house was worth based on recent sales (you can search for recent sales in your neighborhood on the DentonCAD website) in terms of $/square foot.  Also, if you just bought your house within this last year, you can just send in something from your bank that has the final sales price, and they'll have to adjust the CAD appraisal to match the sales price.

Thanks, Tiffany :)  I feel much better now and we'll see what happens.  I'm not expecting miracles but maybe this summer when everyone else gets "business casual Fridays" I will, too.
  • edited December 2011
You don't even get casual Friday?  Now that REALLY sucks and is totally unfair.  Good for you for speaking up!

    Let us know what happens!

Stephie/Donna, thanks for the tips.  We just bought the house in September of 2009, so I will send them the purchase paperwork.

Bill lost his wedding ring.  I stole it.  The white gold is fading off so I'm going to have it re-dipped and then have something inscribed on the inside.  Since I teach Latin and he took Latin, I'm going with "Semper et in perpetuum"--always and forever.  Our first anniversary is this Sunday.  I feel a little bad about it because he's panicking.  I don't want him to worry but I want to keep my secret.

I got a heart rate monitor that tracks calories for my birthday--I apparently burned 745 calories doing an hour long jog. I kind of doubt it was that many but it's something!

Anyone want to buy my old Polar monitor? Haha, I hardly ever used it, sadly.

I'm sitting in my pajamas, eating Taco Bueno, and watching Clueless. I love being self-employed and getting away with days like these because I know they're few and far between.

I went to the Salvation Army chic boutique this morning with my sister. I got there around 11 and there really wasn't much left. I was mostly looking for a suit, but all the cute ones were way too small for me. So we left and went to NorthPark :)

Also, I don't really know anything because I've never owned a home, but wouldn't you want your house to be valued for more than you paid? That sounds like a good thing to me.

Banana-  only at tax time.  =)

My mom was a Realtor when I was growing up and it was funny to watch people to refuse to accept less than X amount for their home, but come tax time they were at the Appraisal District arguing their case that it is worth far less.
