Pre-wedding Parties

Engaged at a party...

Just last weekend my boyfriend proposed to me at a party I was hosting. We had lots of friends and family there already. Should we still have an engagement party? Or maybe just a get together with both of our immediate families?

Re: Engaged at a party...

  • A get-together with your immediate families is always a nice idea.  An engagement party is something someone else throws for you, not something you throw for yourself, so it'd be okay to have one if someone offers to host, but if they don't, don't host one yourself.
  • You only have an e-party if someone else offers to host it for you. You don't throw it for yourselves.

If you wanted to get together with friends again, you can always just throw a random party at your place, engaged or not. But just don't make it engagement/wedding-related. In other words, don't call it an engagement party. Also if just attended a party where many of those guests would also be on your party guest list, I might hold off on having another one.
