Bridal luncheon/Can I order in advance???

Question: Im having a bridal brunch/luncheon to thank the participants in my wedding for their time and effort.... Instead of having it at my house, Im going to have it at a restaurant.  My issue is this... To control the cost, Im having the restaurant serve everyone the same dish and I am using some gorgeous placemats that I had previously purchased for another event so that the table can look special and put together. My fiance thought that it was strange that I wasnt letting them order on their own. I stated that if I had it at home or someone elses home, they wouldnt have necessarily had a choice either.  I didnt do it at home because I start to travel for work the next week, and I wont be really prepared to entertain at home until late december, so I wanted to get this going before the holidays while I could still focus on it. I like the restaurant, and I wanted everything to look perfect, but also didnt want to spend a small fortune on this.

Is this ok?  I wont be offended if someone doesnt eat, but I dont want to be on the hook for $50 worth of food per person either..... Thoughts????

Could you arrange with the restaurant to have a limited menu of 3 entrees so that you can control the cost. If the restaurant needs an exact order ahead of time, the information could be included with the invitation and returned in the RSVPs.

I wouldn't feel offended, either, if someone didn't eat at my luncheon, but I'd know that I didn't provide very well for my guests.

Ok, that's a good idea, but Ive already sent the invites(its in 2 weeks). Should I ask for these over the phone or just let the restaurant convey that we are working with a limited menu that day ?

If the restaurant is willing to take orders from the limited menu when the guests arrive, that would be perfect. You could print up your own menus or you could let the servers list the choices for your guests. It's up to to you.

If the restaurant manager wants the order ahead of time, you could email the info to your guests and tell them when you need to put your order in.

The restaurant where we had our bridal luncheon and RD we both willing to let us use a limited menu. With one they printed it for us and the other we had to do on our own. I would much rather have the option between 3 or 4 entrees than be told what to eat. Your guests will appreciate, too.

I would pick 3 of the same priced meals and make your own menus at home and have them put at each place spot
