I was just wondering what everyones thoughts on an evening bridal shower are. I have never been or heard of one before. It is like a cocktail party I guess. Thoughts please?
maybe because i am a lush this sounds like a wonderful idea! but seriously, appetizers and drinks in the evening seems totally appropriate to me and really fun on top of that.
a few things to consider, tho:
1) if it's going to be held in the evening, it's prob best to hold it on a fri/sat night. 2) some people (aka non-drinkers) might decline depending on how heavily the 'cocktail' aspect is implied.
I don't drink much (just don't care for it, have nothing against it) and I'm fine at cocktail parties. To me, a cocktail shower seems very natural, most showers I've been to don't serve meals and cocktails is a pretty common non-meal party type.
I would, however, make sure you open presents earlier because people who are not partiers might leave earlier.
I think a cocktail party would be a great idea and would actually change the mood from the typical bridal shower.
Our engagement party was a cocktail party with hors d'ouevres and everyone loved the food and drinks and enjoyed themselves. Just make sure there's plenty of hors d'ouevres or finger foods to absorb the alcohol and provide maybe a signature drink martini, sangria and/or mimosas, and white and red wine or maybe a champagne punch, and a cake for dessert. Don't forget non-alcoholic punch and water and sodas for those who don't want to drink or only want a little.
My bridal shower was in the evening! It was great. It was at MOH's house and MOH made toasted raviolis, fondue, and meatballs, and put out cheese, fruit, and veggie trays. We also had wine and beer.
I would actually not recommend doing it on a Friday or Saturday because your friends and family might have better things to do on their weekends than watching you open presents. We did mine on a Monday night and it seemed to work out great.
