haha. speaking of which. my mother sent me a picture text this morning that said...todays forecast - Just F-ing stay inside!-

    gave me a good giggle.

I'm honestly tired of thinking of the weather! How can it be this hot for this long?
  • edited December 2011

The weather said we will tie with 1980 in 12 days. So that means if this continues (which it looks like it will), my wedding will be known as breaking a record and being the hottest summer. joy.... :-/

After being on vacation somewhere where the high was in the 70s, this heat just sucks even more.  I am not a fan of Texas summers...and I've lived here my entire life.

Going down to my apartment office today to see if there's any way they'll let me out of my lease in about a month.  We went looking at houses way early, not thinking we'd find anything (plus house-hunting during the school year? No fun), and of course found one we really like and it got an offer.  The seller apparently didn't like the offer, because they're waiting for us to make one, but if we can't get out of at least one of our leases, we are boned.  =(

In other news, if anyone would like to sublet my nice, low-priced apartment, let me know.  =)

yeah, we're kind of in the same boat. our apartment lease runs out...the friday before the wedding. How awesome.....

we're looking at houses as well. but we can't get out of our lease early so we basically have to stop looking for a few months. we'll start again here in a month or two. that way we'll be on a month to month lease with the apartment and we wont have two house payments basically :)

Ah, we just went through the same thing, went looking and found a great house way under our budget - we had to pay to get out of ours. Not the full remainder of the lease, but paid back 5 months of rental consessions, then 2 months at full market price (about $100 more a month than our regular lease amount). Luckily they were able to rent our place right after we moved out or we would have had to pay 80% of the monthly rent until they did.

<div>Yeah, we would have to pay out the remainder of the lease, breaking fees, all kinds of fees.  If we could find someone to sublet, that would be awesome, but I think for now we're just going to wait.  FI's lease ends the month of our wedding, and mine ends in March.  I actually set it up that way 1) to lower my rent and 2) so that we would have time to save money and look for a new house after our wedding.  The good news is we looked at like 20 houses over the weekend, almost all of them good, so it gives us hope for a few months down the road.</div>

Ladies with the houses Good Luck. DH bought his house a couple months after we started dating.

Courtney - I hope things are ok!

  • edited December 2011

Question for the house-hunting ladies: how did you find your realtor? And, could I just compile a list of what we're looking for and send it to them, and they'll find houses for sale that fit that list? Or will they just show us what they are trying to sell right now at their realty place?

We weren't/aren't actually looking, but two weeks ago my MIL brought us to a house she'd seen that she thought was perfect for us. I didn't like it at all, plus it was shockingly expensive. I wish that could've been the end of it ... but now my DH is depressed we'll never afford a house (at least, not the kind we're looking for), and I'm trying to do some research. I think we're a year or two away from buying, though, so I don't know if now's the right time to contact a realtor. Any opinions, words of advice?

I want to go back home, get into bed and eat some Oreos.

We are in a similar situation.  We have a realtor already but we have begun looking at houses in the area(s) we want to live in just to see what is out there in our price range; what the ones IN our price range will need, etc.  We have had alot of fun doing this on the one hand--but on the other, it is also sort of disheartening to see how far away we are from our dream neighborhood.  But we have learned alot and it's a good way to see what is realistic and rule out areas, etc.  We just pull up the open houses and go on Sundays.  We are probably at least a year away since my daughter is a senior this year.

I am still SO mad about this.  But that being said, being able to goof off with you all weekend (especially with pink vest and whataburger boys) was a blast.  We definitely have to do it again.  Maybe we can talk Cheryl into the FTW one!

No real B&M here other than being a bit sore still from the show.

Marie, Our realtor is a friend of FBIL's who helped him and his family find their home. Her office is in Plano, but she is looking all over Dallas for us, so the location of the realtor shouldn't matter as long as they are good. If you have a list of what you are looking for, it really helps, but again it's okay if you don't completely know. FI and I had a few basic ideas, so the realtor sent us listings that fit our price and criteria. Then after we looked on Saturday, she made a new list just based on what we had liked and we saw those homes on Sunday. Make sure you know what you can spend. FI and I went and got approved for a loan well before we started hunting. Rates are REALLY good right now, which is part of why we wanted to jump in. Even though we aren't getting a home out of our marathon hunting session this weekend, we learned a ton about what's out there, what we need, and what we can live without.

Marie – we found our realtor through a friend/family. Also, we’ve been looking for 8 months with no luck. And FI’s parents looked for a year and a half. You may want to look just to get a feel for what you REALLY want/need/can afford. It may take a long time or it may take less. Also, most realtors want to know if you are preapproved, if you are…go ahead and let them know. But! Don’t tell them what you are preapproved for. FI and I are preapproved for $60K over what we’re actually looking to spend. Once they know what you CAN spend, they usually don’t give two $h!ts about what you WANT to spend….just speaking from experience here. It helps to START looking at houses before you actually plan on buying, another good tip is to maybe look at home depot or lowes or something once you’ve seen a few houses. Get a feel for what things cost, IE fridge, fans, other appliances and what not. (it helps…trust me)

    Crash – apparently it is
"make-everything-just as-complicated as you can" day…or at least everyone I have to deal with thinks so.

Giselle, I hope you feel better!

Our apartment complex ended up being really reasonable about letting us out of the lease, so we went ahead and made an offer.  If we don't get it, it's no big deal, but now we know we can move forward if we find something irresistable.  =)

Laura- when I worked in a daycare there were these "sleeping bags" that were trifolded with a pillow that a lot of the kids had. It had a little extra padding in it.

I found a link  to an idea of one.
