AW Thursday

Good morning ladies! It's my last day of work until 2012, yay!! And we're done Christmas shopping, now if only the wrapping would magically finish itself...

Re: AW Thursday

  • I don't have any AWs. So I'm going to be a rebel and just chit chat.

Or I may go find a funny TB thread and AW that. lol

  • I approve, Kathleen. Today is my last day til next Monday. Then I have another 4 day week next week, unless I opt to use that holiday at a later time. I haven't decided.

I have RSVPs pouring in, so I should probably do that tracker thing in my sig, but I can't have just "# are coming, # are missing out, # are unknown." I spent my drive to work trying to think of something funny

  • Wheee! Today is the first of my days off and I don't have to go back until next Wednesday!! J is at work until noon then we will be on the road to Kentucky for Christmas. In that time I need to wrap, clean the kitchen from my cookie and buckeye making session last night, do laundry and pack. I am a lazy, terrible wife. I need to channel my multi-tasking powers ASAP, but it is hard to stay motivated when my bed is so comfy.
  • My parents are coming today!

I need to wrap presents, BUY a few presents (whoops), and clean my apartment like crazy.

This one is only mildly funny. Only because near the middle OP goes "Oh 1 V? why didn't I think of that?"

Really? I don't get baby names.

  • I seriously hate all the screwy ways people spell what should be a normal effing name.

Seriously name your kid EVA, and leave off that extra V and the H

    Oh my.

When I first read the other one I thought the vv was a W.

I thought "Ewah? Is that like an ewock?"

  • Ugh.  All these cutesy fruitsy spellings make me sick.  These poor kids.  If you want to give a helpless creature a ridiculous name, get a puppy.

I know a girl who named her son "Orien" (pronounced like the constellation Orion).  She apparently caught some flak for it, and even got offended when I posted something on fb about not naming your kids stupid things (definitely not directed at her -- even though I disliked the name) and made sure to give me this long explanation about how her husband picked it and she wasn't on board but now she loves it.  Lately she's been spelling it "O'Ryan" on favebook, though.

</div><div>Oh, while we're talking about babies, my MIL has freaking radar.  She took one look at DH's cousin last weekend and exclaimed, "ARE YOU PREGNANT?!"  Sho nuff.  Cousin is like, 8 weeks along and barely showed at all with her first baby.  It was crazy.  Then we had to calm MIL down because cousin hasn't told her mom or MIL and was planning an elaborate surprise.</div>

    Oh jeez. Poor Cousin.

Speaking of surprise announcements, I absolutely love this blog: http://www.motherglow.com/. It's couples announcing their pregnancy to families. It's also linked to one with military guys surprising their families (waterworks delux over there!), and videos of proposals. I may need to waste an hour watching some of these.

  • Oh man.  Maybe when we're ready to have kids that will all be super fun times, but wow.

I would have to stay away from the baby names forum.  I have a hard enough time finding/keeping names I like since I'm a teacher.

  • So here's a legit question:

What is everyone doing for the holidays?  Unmarrieds, have you and FI worked out a schedule yet?

We're lucky (I think) in that BIL has been married for ten years and has two kids, so we just jumped on their Thanksgiving/Christmas rotation and it all has worked out.  Also, getting married right before T-Day and spending a whole week with my parents helped too, I think.

  • We are going to OKC tomorrow through Sunday morning.
Tomorrow night = dinner with my dad's side of the family
Christmas eve = My mom, sister, grandpa & cousin's family
Christmas day we will be back for time with FI's family.

Everything was easy this year. His parents will more than likely be living back in AZ next year, and he was deployed last year, which made for an easy presenting my case to my family as to why we were spending Christmas Day with them. The only one who had a problem with it was my stepmom cause they had to shuffle their (really her) schedule around from visiting her family in Tulsa before Christmas, and going to OKC after. Guilt trips don't really work on me, especially if she has anything to do with it.

  • We really lucked out in the 'division of holiday' department. J's family lives here, so for either TG or Christmas, we don't have to travel. Last year, we did TG in St. Louis with my parents and mom's side of the family and Christmas here, so we just flipped it for this year. We had TG in Little Elm with his side and will be with my parents, sister and her FI in KY for Christmas. We used to alternate between St. Louis, Maine and KY growing up, but after my grandparents passed away we haven't done Christmas anywhere but TX or KY in 3 years. Christmas in Maine is probably my most favorite, with the promise of a white Christmas every year. Damn I miss that!

<div>Our schedule involves too much driving for my taste- but with my reliable car I don't mind as much. I'm driving to WF after work this afternoon so I can drop my car at the dealership in the morning to get detailed and plates put on, tomorrow night we're doing a trolley around town to look at Christmas lights with Jeremy's whole extended family.</div><div>
</div><div>Tomorrow night we're driving back to Denton, doing Christmas Eve with my family- Sherlock Holmes in the morning, laziness, then It's a Wonderful Life (we watch it eeeeeeeevery year), one gift, and then doing stockings and gifts super early the next morning to get back on the road and back to WF by noon.</div><div>
</div><div>Christmas with Jeremy's immediate family at noon, then extended family Christmas/dinner starts at 4. Lots and lots of back and forth for me, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't have another freak Christmas blizzard like 2 years ago.</div>
