Marriage License

This probably a moronic question BUT...

...Do you get your marriage license the same day you go in to pick it up?  It's not something that's mailed to you for any reason, is it?  Just trying to make sure that we have all our ducks in a row in the event FI is gone for the next 1.5 months and we do decide to keep our original date.

Re: Marriage License

  • We took it home with us that day.

You might already know this but: We also had to both be present to pick it up, and I think it had to be no less than 30 days before, but more than 3 days before, the wedding date. There is some kind of provision for absentees, though (link).
  • I think you pick it up when you go.
I would check and make sure they don't expire.

  • Ditto PPs:  no more than 30 days, no less than 3 days.  Dallas County (and maybe the others but that's where we got ours) will only take cash.
  • Thanks!  I knew there was the 72 hour waiting period and you had to get it within 30 days of your marriage date, so I had assumed that they gave it to you right then and there.  Then I realized I probably shouldn't just assume and should just ask.

  • Yeah, the cash only thing is important for Dallas County. We didn't realize it and had to run to an ATM when we got there. Also, the place we went to in Richardson (Beltline and Coit) only issues them from 1 - 3 PM. Not sure if any others are that picky.

  • Yeah, some of the others only issue at certain times too (non-main branh) so do your research on the one you're visiting.
  • Make sure you get it early so you can bedazzle it.

<div>I wouldn't consider anything else BUT bedazzling it.  Nothing but the best for our marriage license.  IT'S MY WEDDING DAY AND I'LL DO WHATEVER I WANT.</div>
