What to do?

I need help with my hair and makeup artist. My wedding isn't until November so I don't want to do my bridals until closer to my actual date. I would like to use my trial for hair and makeup for my bridals as well. There lies the problem, I dont know what to do.

I don't want the stylist I want to be booked but she doesnt "hold" dates either. I don't want to pay for my wedding date if i haven't even had a trial yet!

Should I pay for the trial and wedding date in advance so that i have peace of mind she wont be booked OR should I wait until Sept. or Oct. to book her?

(I hope that makes sense to everyone haha)

It depends on how busy she is....my trial hair run is the same day as my bridals also. It depends on how much faith you have in her abilities...has she ever done your hair before? Has she done a hairstyle like you want for your wedding?? And if so, does she have pictures? Just a few things to consider that might help with your decision....

The hair stylist is Erin Gobin. Judging from her website I like her work and she seems really sweet...plus her reviews on Wedding Wire are amazing!!

That is just alot of money to put into some one just off of confidence and hope, ya know? haha

She asks for full payment up front?   That seems odd to me.  My MUA only asks for 25% up front with the contract.  You might want to shop around since this is a big concern for you.

If it were me, I wouldn't book (and especially not pay in full) for someone without having a trial first.  I'm sue she is a competent hair/makeup artist by all means, but it was important to me to make sure that our personalities mesh too since that person will be spending hours with me and the girls on the day of the wedding.

You need a trial first.  If I had went with the first lady I did a trial with, it would have been a disaster.  I booked the MUA I ended up using 6 months out so I could get her.

Plus I don't recommend doing the trial on the same day as your bridals--not necessarily because you won't like it, but because you might change your mind or want to do something different and there won't be time.  The purpose of the trial is to get it all right BEFORE the bridals or wedding day.

That all being said, Erin has a fabulous reputation.  But there may be a good chance she books your date simply because she is in high demand.

Thats a good point steph! Maybe doing a trial for my bridals isn't the best idea...you never know

And Tiffany, she asks for 50% up front :)

I did my trial and my portraits the same day.  Mostly because I just didn't want to pay another time.  That stuff is expensive!

I think it all depends on you and what you want.  I am really not that picky so I went ahead and booked Erin on her reputation, blog and photos.  I did my trial the day of my bridals (pictures at http://www.f8digital.net/angelabride/ if you are interested) and I loved them both. But, I didn't go in with too many specifics on makeup.  I just gave her a general idea and let her do what she thought would look best.  The only thing is that she used a lot of foundation (I mean a lot) on the bridals but that was partially my fault because I put moisturizer on right before she came and the makeup wouldn't stick.  And she said she does heavier mu for photo shoots and we will go lighter on the day of.

Anyway, I am only giving you all of these specifics because I hired her blindly and am very pleased with her work. Either way, I think it depends on how particular you are.  Some girls have an exact idea of what they want or others want to see different ideas played out.  Ah, I probably didn't help much but just wanted to say that you can do your trial the day of your bridals, take a risk on the MU artist and still love it!
