July 2012 Weddings

My hand-stitched Hankies (heavy PIP)

With Bridetobes previous post, she reminded me that I wanted to post these.
I bought plain white handkerchiefs and hand stitched my messages on them by hand. I'll admit that it took alot of work and man hours but I got them all done.

My Dad

My mom

(It says: Mom, To dry your happy tears on my wedding day as you have always dried mine.  Love Andrea.  July 21, 2012)

My grandmother

(It's in French, just that alone will give her a perma smile since most of the grand kids don't speak it anymore)

FMIL

FFIL

FI's grandmother

FI  (he has no clue he's getting one)

And since I was ona  roll.... Mine (It's 1st Corinthians "Love is...")

  • They look awesome! I love that you did them yourself. I'd probably puncture myself with a sewing machine if I tried.

That's amazing! Open up an Etsy shop girl!! ;-) They're going to love these and even more since they were made by you!

  • GORGEOUS!  I bet that took a TON of time, but how fun and personal.  I was thinking of making one for my dad, but I never liked embroidery.  How did you get the letters to actually look like letters?  Any suggestions if I were to venture a try on this?
  • OMG.  They are gorgeous and the fact that you did them yourself, by hand, makes me bow down to your DIY Bride-ness.

    Bravo!

It depends on which one.. a short one like my dads would have taken me about 4-5 hours, one like the grandmothers would have taken me at least 12-15 hours.

This is how I did them:

I went into Ms  Word and typed out my message and printed them on my printer.  Then I took graphite paper layered that on top of my handkerchief and then taped the paper with the message on it onto top of the graphite paper.  Next I traced the message so the graphit transferred onto the hanky.  Once I finished tracing my message I removed all the paper. Placed my hanky in an embroidery ring and went to work witha  needle and thread.
