Weekend Getaway Before the Wedding

We are trying to think of some inexpensive things to do in the DFW area for a weekend, so we can relax and take our minds off of some WR stress we've been experiencing.

Did any of you do a local getaway before the wedding? Any ideas?

Re: Weekend Getaway Before the Wedding

  • We took a 5 day trip to San Francisco 2 weeks before our wedding!
And honestly it was the BEST thing we could have done. I was a little stressed before the trip because I wanted to get EVERYTHING done beforehand, but right now, 5 days out, we are sititng pretty with very little stress, just anticipation and excitement!
It was nice to have a deadline before the deadline so we can enjoy this week as our family starts getting in.
As CRAZY as it sounds, I would recommend it to anyone.

As far as some local recommendations, I'm not sure how far you are looking to go, but Tara Wineries in Tyler is somewhere I've ALWAYS wanted to go.
If you're into camping-type stuff, Bonham State Park is great. Not luxurious, but peaceful and serene.
  • Thanks for the suggestions! I actually know about Tara Wineries cause my dad is from that area and I didn't even think about it.

  • You could also just go spend the weekend at someplace like the Gaylord, and enjoy the pools, or downtown Grapevine and/or surrounding areas.

Or there's the Wildcatter Ranch out in Graham that has a lot of neat, outdoor stuff to do.

Gruene is also one of our favorite spots!  And the Gruene Mansion Inn is FANTASTIC!

  • What about Turner Falls? Is that still a decent place to go?

Aww!  We're headed down there this weekend, so I'll think of you on your wedding day!!  ;-)<div>Not that I wouldn't have anyway, but just sayin'!</div>
  • I like the Gaylord idea. My FI spent a weekend there just for the heck of it. It was alot of fun. Sometimes we will go Uptown and get a room and do massages at the spa and just chill for a night.
