title name change?

If you have changed your name, how did you change the name on your car title? I called Wells Fargo, my loan company, and they said Texas requires the DMV has to initiate the process with them.  How did you do this? I already went in and got a new license, I have the temporary one. Please tell me I don't need to go back to do this! Happy Tuesday ladies.

Here's the verbage from the website (I still have to do it too).

Just take the certified documents, a copy of your current title and registration papers, and a $28 fee to your county tax office to apply for a corrected title.  The certified documents must show your name change, and may include a marriage certificate, divorce decree, naturalization or adoption papers, or other court documents.

Stephie, is that just for a car that is paid off, or does it include a car that is still being paid for?  I don't have the title of my car since I'm still paying for it, so is it correct to assume that since the bank has my new last name, that when I do pay it off, the title will be under my new last name? 

I've been married over a year and I swear more and more things like this keep popping up where I need to check what name my stuff is under!

Yeah, that's for a corrected title when you already have the title.  I think. 

I had so much trouble changing my name with my bank--I would suggest calling them to verify.  Because just because you change your checking, savings, etc., that doesn't mean it will change the car loan.  I had to change my mortgage separately.

no, I went through Wells Fargo Dealer services which is my car loan. They changed my name but said the DMV has to initiate the change of the title. I don't own it yet. Not sure where to go or if I even need to change it.

Oh, Ok, sorry.  Mine is paid off so I have my title.  So I was giving you instructions for that.
