Reception Venue Locations!

Hi, I am newly engaged and we're looking to book our venue for our wedding reception. We're going to have a small group of 80 or so and it will be a winter wedding so it has to be indoors. Does anyone have any suggestions based on personal experience of places that are indoors for average groups that are decently priced? I am looking for a venue with either an average rental fee with flexibility to choose your caterer OR a low rental fee + a low total food and beverage consumption. Can't afford that Dallas average wedding cost of $40k! Thanks!

Re: Reception Venue Locations!

  • With very few exceptions (in fact, only one that I can think of), none of the girls here have had what you name is the average Dallas wedding cost.  Most of us have been below $15000 and many below $10000.

Before anyone can really help us, you really need to give us what your budget is for this type of place.

I had my reception at Maggiano's Little Italy at North Park and I paid about $7500-8000 for that; I had 90 people.  It included an open bar and a champagne toast.
  • We are having ours at the Texas Star Golf Course. The room rates are really good and it comes with linens and centerpieces and all the serving staff included. We are having the wedding and reception there and the total room cost was $900.

BTW- my whole wedding will be about $6k! Not $40k!

  • Avanti at Fountain Place comes to mind.  One of our Knotties had a smaller wedding and she had it at Fairy Tale Manor. We also had a Knottie have both her ceremony and reception at Ferrari's Italian Villa.
  • What exactly are you looking for? Urban? Rustic? Traditional? Modern? As juliebug said, most of us have had $15,000 and below weddings.

I loved professorscience's wedding at Cityplace tower. I have also seen a wedding at Tower Club (downtown Dallas boa building) that was phenomenal (ceremony was in a room overlooking downtown on the 48th floor).

Room on Main has been mentioned here for both indoor ceremony and reception. Three Three Three first avenue, Hickory Street Annex, 2616 Commerce and Off the Grid, and the Filter Building are all affordable and allow a great deal of flexibility to bring in your own vendors.

If you can give us a better idea of what you are looking for, we can give better suggestions. Happy planning!

  • Ooh avanti is pretty. I also love the room on main, old red courthouse, the filter building, lofty spaces
  • Avanti Fountain Place would be gorgeous.  You might also try Event 1013 in downtown Plano.  It's a really pretty space.

I had my rehearsal dinner at Times Ten Cellar (in their event room "Times Ten Too") in Lakewood, and they do receptions often.  I know once they closed the main building to patrons because they had a wedding and reception there... it is a little awkwardly set up inside, so you'll want to make sure all your guests can see the ceremony.

I agree with aeliza, we can't help much if we don't know what you're going for.

  • My reception at the Magnolia will be right at $9000 plus tax & grat for 150 (the mimimum was $9000, and unless our tab on consumption is outrageous, we will barely hit the minimum with a ton of food in our package)

Gah, I thought about the Magnolia but felt it was too "modern" for my taste by looking at pictures. I remember the lady I corresponded with was so sweet--had I known this, I think I might have reconsidered!
  • Event1013 in Plano is nice for your group size! I wanted to have my wedding here but it was too small at the time we thought for 135+.

I think the rental rates are pretty decent and I don't think they have a preferred caterer list so you should be able to bring in whoever you want.

Yeah, I am seriously struggling with not adding on more food knowing that we are barely going to hit the minimum when it's all said and done. Jessica is a sweetheart (I don't know if that's who you spoke with or not, teeny tiny blonde girl)

I LOVE Jessica! I planned my sorority's formal here in 2008. She was a dream to work with and really brought my vision to life. Two of my sisters ended up having their wedding here as a result :) Can't wait to see your pictures Wendi!
  • The filter building is good, but very DIY. I'm having both ceremony and reception there. The rates vary heavily depending on the day of the week.
  • The Gate House On 35 and 8th street it is  part of a church but they rent out to anyone for wedding receptions. $ 150 /4 hours. $300/ 8 hours Its not the fanciest of places but it is clean and new, they also have a piano inside the recption place for usage.

I am having my wedding reception there Jan. 28

    Best of Luck and Congrats!
