July 2012 Weddings

Show off your venue (sorry if double post)

TK seemed to have eaten my first thread on this, so trying it again - show off your venue!

Here's mine. We're doing the ceremony in a historic church in downtown Baltimore. The reception is at the American Visionary Art Musuem. I can't wait for July!

Church:

The cocktail hour is partially in a barn (formerly an old whiskey distillery):

...and partially outside in a garden

Guests will be able to browse the museum during the cocktail hour.

Reception room (hard to find a good picture, but it's basically just a rectangular room with brick walls on three sides, and a wall made of old whiskey barrels on the fourth side):

The thing I love the most about our venue is all of the cool photo opportunites!

Our Venue: The Jacob Henry Mansion Estate. They have a 100 year old church, the mansion itself, and a ballroom they built about 10 years ago. The grounds are really pretty! We'll get married in the church, have our 90 minute cocktail hr. in the mansion, and have dinner and dancing in the ballroom. Everything is within 20-30 yards of each other.

    Church

Mansion- We'll have two full floors for guests to roam. They have it decorated so nice! Lot's of antiques/old pics, ect.

    Outside of the ballroom.

inside the ballroom. We're going to have gold chivari chairs and 2 different kinds of tall centerpieces. This pic is taken only of 1/2 the room. I LOVE the chandilers they have. There are a lot of them (behind the cameraman.) But, you get the idea.

Wow- yours are both really gorgeous!

mbody - I'm so jealous your locations are all so close together! We couldn't find a reception venue we liked anywhere near a church we liked, so we have to do buses.

  • Since it looks like this thread is sticking, I'm going to AW my venue again.

Ceremony is at an old Catholic church in downtown Philly. It's super cool inside because it was the "old" Cathedral of Philadelphia until they created the new one in the 1800s.

    The inside:

After the ceremony, we're busing everyone out to the reception at an old estate house that is ours for the whole day. The grounds of the estate were designed by Charles Eliot of the firm of Olmsted, Olmsted and Eliot, responsible for the design of Central Park in New York City and the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina.

This is how ours will look because we are putting up a tent with white sheer drapery all over the inside of the tent where we're serving dinner.

Better view of how it'll look inside the tent (and I LOVE the chandeliers). We're doing gold chiavari chairs with white cushions and gold candelabras with flowers for centerpieces, so it'll actually look kind of similar except for the centerpiece vase:

For cocktail hour, people can roam inside the estate and see the antiques/old pictures, etc. and we're having our own antiques and old family pictures scattered around on fireplaces and in the study.

They can also explore the gardens around the estate, because they are GORGEOUS and the one with the fountain is where we're seting up an outdoor lounge with antique furniture (couches, coffee tables, chairs, etc.), with Italian string lights lit overheard when it's dark.

My favorite part of the estate is probably all of the photo-ops. We definitely plan on getting one of the balcony, which is connected to the groom's suite upstairs:

It has its own hook in the bridal suite, hanging from the ceiling, for you to take dress shots!

  • I don't have any good photos but heres the link to my venue. (clicky). Everything is being held in one place. Ceremony downstairs, then upstairs for cocktail hour, then back down for party! And everyone will be staying at the hotel they own which is directly across the street.

  • bridetobe - I have already told you, but your venue is STUNNING. and thank you for replying to my thread even though it has since been eaten :(
  • Butterfly - Thank you!

And I think what I posted was a few links to some of my pinterest photos for types of signs that I've purchased or plan to make. One of them is this one: http://pinterest.com/pin/112801165636831665/ - I bought a bunch of these and am going to put them around the reception site entrance and then in the garden area with "drinks ---- />" or something. The website is actually really helpful and totally legit - the stuff came packaged well and was high quality, which was surprising to me. :)

  • Our ceremony site:

Jekyll Island GA. Right on the beach. We are not having any backdrop besides the Atlantic Ocean.

    Our reception site:

South Dunes picnic area. This is also right up the beach from where we are having our ceremony. About a five minute walk.

  • Okay I'll share! These are just a few pics off the website. We are getting married on the gazebo on site. I took all the pics that weren't featuring people. Lol.

We will be doing this with a rum punch I think.

  • We're getting married in the gazebo outside, and the reception is inside...it's a museum.

And I HAVE to find this bench that's somewhere on the grounds at our venue! (It has a huge "garden" that has all kinds of buildings, gates, a pond, pathways, etc so I'm excited to find places for pics!)

The outside of our reception building:

Tiny pic of our reception space...I cannot find a good pic that you can actually see:

And another shot from the reception area...this is actually a friend that got married at the same venue last year:
