Nervous

I have my first shower today after work and I am SO nervous. Mainly because I'm not going to know ANYONE- FMIL's co-workers are hosting it at a restaurant. FMIL is friends with pretty much the entire town and I'm going to meet a lot of them for the first time tonight.

I don't know why, but it feels awkward getting gifts from people I don't even know! And I always feel like I need to give something in return if I get a gift.


I'm hoping it goes well. FMIL says this one will have about 13 people so not too big. The next one will be on May 19th with over 40 people and I'm freaking out about that one too since it is hosted by FMIL's "closest" friends.

I'll be fine, right?

Oh gosh, I would be nervous too, sorry if that doesn't help! I am not good being around people that I don't know, I'm kind of shy I guess? But I'm always better if I know at least one person, so I would imagine that your FMIL will help you out and ease any awkwardness. I'm sure it'll be fine!

You will be fine!! However, I understand your feelings. I thought the same thing about my shower last weekend with FI's family and his fam's friends. It's like, "Hi nice to meet you, oh and thanks for the gift!"

Everyone will be excited to speak to you, mostly about the wedding so the conversation should go smoothly because I'm sure there's a lot you can talk about. It's really nice that your FMIL and her friends are doing this for you so enjoy the moment and the gifts!

Awww, try to have fun! Just remember that they wouldn't be there if they didn't want to be They want to shower you with gifts and good wishes!

I had that kind of shower a couple of weeks ago (with FMIL, FIs family I hadn't met, and her coworkers).  Honestly, it was a little awkward because I don't like being the center of attention, but overall it was fun and really nice to meet everybody!  The hardest part that I found was that I received some gifts from people I didn't know who were invited but couldn't attend.  Aside from "Thanks for the thoughtful gift, we really love the _____" I couldn't think of much else to write in the thank you note.
