[QUOTE]In Response to Re: FFF! : I actually didn't see the proposal coming. I knew I would marry DH. But we hadn't been dating long, and he proposed on the fly on Christmas eve after we had been dating 7 months, with no ring, on the spot.

This sounds like my story. FI actually proposed before he had the ring, and he wasn't expecting to ask me when he did. It was also seven months in.

As for me, I'd never thought about having a wedding. Not when I was a kid, not when FI and I were dating. I guess it would've helped me if I had, because then this whole wedding process wouldn't have been so foreign. And a part of me is worried I'm going to wake up on my wedding day and it's still going to feel pretty unreal.

ETA -- I should say, the marrying FI part feels real. It's the whole big-white-dress and flowers and being a "bride" part that is so weird for me. Maybe it's shyness? Or not usually wearing dresses or makeup?

I didn't ever dream about my wedding growing up, actually.  Like Lacey, I just wasn't one of those girls.   The only thing I ever knew was the song I wanted to dance to some day.

I flame people who flip out over fertility and age.   I'm almost 27, and I'm not "old" by any means.   We have more than plenty of time if we choose to have kids.

Okay I have a flame now.  I was sitting here working when I heard a tiny dog barking its head off outside.  When I walked out, I saw GiGi, our neighbors 5lb long hair chihuahua barking at the 6'2" 200lb maintenance guy who was scared and cowering in the corner.  Really dude?  REALLY?  She is the size of my flipflop for God's sake.  Open the door and let her back in!

Needless to say, I had to go outside and pick her up.  I said her name once, she ran over and jumped up into my arms.

Why are grown men such chickens?

Hahahaha... TexanTreasure08, I like your "Nope"

I wasnt a dreamer growing up either.  But 3 years into our 5 year dating relationship I started dreaming. <3  and its soooo coming together!

And I agree, putting money down before the ring is on, is not smart!  Not for my budget anyway.

It's Monday but I was with 60 girls and 10 boys on Friday so I couldn't participate.

I booked my venue and had a dress before Bill gave me the ring.  We couldn't get Jared to fix the ring he bought.  Bill was even going to propose under the Century Oak at A&M but they were still screwing around with the ring.  He finally said he would bring it back after he proposed.  I got to wear it for three days before it disappeared again.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: FFF! : I wasn't talking about girls who have been shown an engagement ring and told, "I'm going to give this to you sometime soon."  That's way different.  FI asked me what kind of ring I liked while we were still in college, so he'd known that for a while.  He asked me my ring size a few months before we got engaged, and he was being extra sentimental, but I chalked it up to the fact that he was halfway around the world with no one to talk to.  He'd been telling me since we were about 20 that he wanted to marry me, but in no way did I start getting to work.  I got engaged without a ring, so I technically made plans before I got my ring, but not before I got my verbal commitment.  You know?

Oh, I was just listing my "how I'm different from everyone else".  I wasn't refering to your part.  I know that a few people on here criticize in general planning a wedding without having the bling.
