Out of Town bride looking for a bridal boutique!

Hi everyone! My name is Kristen and I currently live in NC, although I was born in Dallas and my whole extended family lives around the DFW area. This July my mom, dad, fiancé, and myself are coming to visit and my mom suggested we take my grandma out to watch me try on dresses. Its hard to tell from websites which salons are nice, since everyone tries to look good online, so I'm looking for some suggestions. I'm not really looking to buy a dress as much as getting a nice bridal experience for my grandmother. She's getting older and my mom is concerned this may be the only time she sees me in a wedding dress (my weddings not for another 2 years). So my question is, which bridal salons have a nice area for families to sit while the bride try's on dresses? I've been to some pretty nasty places in NC and I'm really wanting this to be special for my family! Thanks ladies!

  • I bought my dress at Mockingbird Bridal, and they had a little room off to the side where my 5-6 guests could sit.  The area where you try on dresses is a little small, though, so if it is crowded (we had an appointment for 9 am, so there ended up being only one other bride), there won't be as much room for your family to sit.

The only other places I went were David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo.  Both had plenty of room (David's Bridal was a madhouse), but I don't know if that's what you want.

  • Lasting Bridal Couture, Circle Park Bridal and LuLu's Brodal Boutique were all nice places. You could try those. The first two are in Addison, the other is in Dallas.
  • I think Circle Park would be a great experience. I got my dress at Terry Costa, but it was somewhat impersonal and a madhouse so I wouldn't recommend it if you want a quiet personal experience.
  • I used the Davids Bridal on Preston Rd. I really enjoyed my experience. it had plenty of room for family

  • I used a Bridal Blossom. I think it's now called Gowns of Grace: a Bridal Blossom Boutique. There's really only one woman who I've seen in there and its the owner Nancy. I thought since it was so small I wouldn't find anything I'd like, but in the end I found the only dresses I liked there and ended up coming back after going to Lulu's and Mockingbird. Dresses are around 700-$1300. If you go to their facebook you will see the newest dresses they get in.

500 Comments Third Anniversary 5 Love Its
Bliss Bridal in Fort Worth has awesome areas for the family! Each fitting room is separated and has its own sitting area with a decent sized couch and the platform/mirror. It's also pretty new so everything is fresh and clean. As long as you don't have a bazillion people (since you will only have one couch) then I would highly recommend it! Ask for Jessica, if she's available. She was super sweet.

Pence and Panache was a great experience for me! We were the last appointment on a thursday, and they have a fun mini-runway to walk down, with mirrors all around you on the ceiling so you can look up and see the dress from literally every angle. I think they are appointment only, and you can make appointments online, and they only have 2 fitting rooms, so you're garunteed a lot of attention.
  • I got my dress at Lulu's...ask for Sharon, she's the best! They even got my dress to arrive in 6 weeks, instead of the 4 months they prepared me for. It is small inside, but there are chairs for family. I also really loved the ladies at Circle Park, but I couldn't commit to a dress from there. I went during the week and 3 of the ladies spent almost two hours helping me out. They were having fun playing dress up! Mockingbird Bridal was okay, but I didn't feel the love like the other two places. Have fun!
  • Lulu's is fantastic for the price range of under $2000, super nice, very relaxed, browse quietly or sales help if you ask.  If you can go over that price, go to Stardust Celebrations in Plano by Willowbend Mall.  Kathy there helped me find my gown.  The first floor is for the under $2500 range.  2nd floor is for +$2500 range.  The two stores are related too, so they can call back and forth and make appts.
  • Stardust in Plano is AMAZING and they have a great space for your guests.  I took 6 with me when I went.  Just call and let them know you're coming in and how many people you're bringing with you.
Also, some side advice--whomever you end up choosing, don't let them know you're not 'really' shopping yet :)
Here's the website...yeah, it's terrible, but it's a great place. They were even on Say Yes to the Dress/ Randy to the Rescue: http://www.stardustcelebrations.com/stardust-bridal-salon.html
    Good luck!
