A little frustrated

So my Uncle is our officiant and we were suppose to go see him this weekend and work out the ceremony details.  We were going to leave tomorrow afternoon and drive the 4+ hours down there, spend all day Saturday relaxing and going over the details and then drive the 4+ hours back Sunday.   Well my Uncle just emailed me and said he won't be able to make it out to the farm until Saturday morning because he has a conference tomorrow in San Antonio.  Not a problem if we weren't driving 4 hours out there Saturday morning to drive back the 4 hours Sunday morning.  Just a little frustrated.  Now I'm debating whether to get a hotel in Austin for us to stay at tomorrow night so we can be there early Saturday morning and not lose 4 hours driving there or just getting up early Saturday and driving down.  I'm not looking forward to telling FI either because he'll probably just say never mind let's not go Frown

PS we are doing all the driving with a hyper 5 yr old so that's why I'm thinking maybe tomorrow so she can sleep some of the drive!

    Wait, I'm confused.  You initially planned to drive out there tomorrow, relax and go over details on Saturday and drive back on Sunday - right?  So, if he can't make it until Saturday how does that deter your plans, since you weren't going to talk details until Saturday anyway?

    Can you not stay at the farm without him there?

    No we can't stay out there without him because there is this big gate that has a remote opener and he's got the opener.

    Yes we weren't going over details until Saturday but we'll have to get up and leave Saturday morning now and drive out there from Ft Worth.  We would probably leave around 7-8 and get there between 11-12 depending on traffic.  I'm ok losing some relaxing time Saturday and just going that morning but I don't think FI will be to happy about it.  We have to leave by 8 on Sunday morning because we have to get FI's daughter back to Ft Worth so her mom can pick her up early afternoon.  Just seems like a lot of driving for a short stay.  Maybe that's just my thinking!

    Okay, I see.  You can't stay at the farm without your uncle, so you have nowhere to stay on Friday night.  If you leave Saturday, that makes for a long day, especially since you will turn right back around on Sunday.  Makes sense now. 

    I say, if you can, leave on Friday and stay in a hotel.  That way you are completely exhuasted when you get home on Sunday.  That is a lot of driving to stay just one night.

    Yeah that was my thinking too!  I found a pretty cheap actually decent hotel that we can stay at in Austin and then get up refreshed Saturday and head out to the farm.

    That sucks :(  Too bad San Antonio doesn't mean Houston... you could have come hung out with us.

    I know right!  And now FI wants to just wait and drive down Saturday morning!  I understand saving money on the hotel but that is a lot of time in the car this weekend and I found a hotel that is $40 right now.  NOT BAD!  Oh well I'll just smile and try to go with the flow Smile

    Ah, sorry for the frustration.  Austin is an easy drive though, especially on the weekend.

    I did Houston and back in one day for work a few weeks ago.  It wasn't awful.
