songs

just wanted to see what songs people will be using/ have used for their dances/ big moments. our dj just sent us a list and some of them i hadn't even thought about! we're still in the process of picking all of ours out and most of ours will probably be more obscure songs that our guests won't even know (i.e., tristan prettyman songs...which i'm kind of worried about)

first dance:
father/ daughter dance:
mother/ groom dance:
bouquet toss:
cake cutting:
bridal party intros:

Here are ideas I have so far:

ideas for Ceremony Music (played by string quartet)--

Prelude or other parts of ceremony:
    "Yellow" by Coldplay (listen)
"Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol (listen)
    "Imagine" by John Lennon (listen)

"1,2,3,4" by Plain White T's (listen)
"The Way You Look Tonight" by Tony Bennett (listen)

    or
"The Way You Look Tonight" by Tony Bennett (listen)
"Moon River" John Mercer (lyrics) and Henry Mancini (music) (listen)
    ?

    Bridal Party/Groomsmen:
    "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen (listen)

    Bridal Entrance:
"Canon in D" by Pachelbel (listen)
    OR
    Traditional Bridal Chorus

    Exit:
"Viva la Vida" by Coldplay (listen)
    OR
    Traditional Wedding March

Ideas for Reception Songs played by DJ--

"You're My Best Friend" by Queen
"Celebration" by Kool and the Gang
"We are Family" by Sister Sledge

    First Dance:

"By Your Side" by Sade (listen) -- This is "our song."
"The Way You Look Tonight" by Tony Bennett (listen)

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow / What A Wonderful World" by Iz
"The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson

    Bouquet Toss:

"Crazy in Love" by Beyonce (listen) -- I think the beginning of the song is so fun.
"All the Single Ladies" by Beyonce (listen) -- for obvious reasons.
"It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls (listen)

    Garter Throw:
"Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen
    The Mission: Impossible Theme Song
"What a Man" by Salt n Pepa
    Rocky Theme Song
"Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred
"Bad Boys" by Inner Circle (listen)

    Private Last Dance:
"The Way You Look Tonight" by Tony Bennett (listen)
"By Your Side" by Sade (listen) -- This is "our song."

    Random Songs I want Played:
"Grow Old With You" by Adam Sandler (listen)
"3 Little Birds" by Bob Marley (listen)
"Fools Rush In" by Elvis Presley
I know I want some Elvis and some fun dance songs... and I know there are songs I want to put on my "don't play" list.
Disclaimer: Please excuse the above comment. I'm probably freaking out because there is less than one month to go. Thank you.

I love this post! AmberMarie thanks for including the links!

I don't have any picked out yet but there are two that I LOVE that I wanted to share with y'all.

Bride's Processional: As Tears Go By by Vitamin String Quartet (vocal version with Rolling Stones) link here
This one gives me goosebumps! It's the song used for Chase & Cameron's wedding in House, MD in the season finale of season 5. Love it!

Father/Daughter Song: Wildflowers by Tom Petty
I think I stole it from someone else here but I love it too.

We're waiting til FI gets home from overseas next summer to work on the Reception Music (we're doing a Rat Pack theme with our reception, so we'll have a lot of Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc... playing) but I've worked out a lot of the ceremony stuff already

Prelude or other parts of ceremony:
    All Vitamin String Quartet covers
    Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)
    Wonderwall (Oasis)
    Just Like Heaven (The Cure)
    Everlong (Foo Fighters)
    Somebody to Love (Queen)
    Only One (Yellowcard)
    With or Without You (U2)

    Seating of the Mothers:
    Edelweiss (Instrumental)

    Bridal Party/Bridal Entrance:
    Con te Partiro (Instrumental)

    Exit:
"All You Need is Love"  (Vitamin String Quartet)

    RECEPTION DEFINITES:
    Father/Daughter Dance:
James Taylor "You've Got a Friend"
    OR
Moody Blues "Nights in White Satin"
(Both have sentimental meaning from growing up)

Everything else I'm leaving TBD til he gets back, but we want something fun for our first dance, probably Michael Franti's "Say Hey (I Love You)" - we've talked about taking lessons to dance to this one...

    ~DFWs Resident Snark~
I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?
