DJ Recos

Hi Ladies,
Has anyone used DJ Mike Production or In Motion DJ for their wedding? They were two whose sites were fairly decent and informative. I found DJ Mike Production on Wedding Wire and the other... I don't remember.

Does anyone know what Melodies & Memories charges for a Friday night? We are on a tight budget and I hate when vendors don't put their pricing on their site!  Trying to keep it close to $500-$600 if possible, including ceremony + 3 hour reception. I know some people on here used DJ's of Dallas but I was not impressed with the info on their site.  Any other suggestions??

TIA!

I just got a quote from Melodies & Memories for a Sunday afternoon wedding and it was $700 for 6 hrs., but I had her take out the lighting since we don't need it in the afternoon. You might give her a call and see if she can work within your budget, she was very nice on the phone and at the top of our list right now.

I talked to Melodies & Memories and if you tell her you heard about her from the Knot she was willing to negoicate.  We got a quote for $700 on a Saturday night for 4 hours.  That was the best we have gotten on a Saturday.  Still trying to convince FI that is who we need to go with!  I'd call her and see what she can work out for you!

Definitely Melody and Memories.... she will get you right where you want to be! Make sure you mention you heard about her on theknot and she will give you an extra discount.

I am the only one here that will not reccomend Melody and Memories. She couldn't get to the price I wanted ($500). So, I went with Andy from A Music Wave. We are paying $495 for 4 hours on a Saturday night. He is doing our ceremony and reception.

It sounds like Melody charges $700 no matter what. I'll give her a call, but really wanted to see if anyone had used the others I found. At least Melody comes highly recommended :)

She qouted me $600, but it was still more than I wanted to pay and when I found Andy (who at the time was highly recommened) for $495 I really couldn't pass!

Renee - I actually contacted Andy (I'm still in the DJ Market)... and it took him a while to get back to me.  I emailed him back immediately when he reponded... and now I'm waiting again.  Is he normally responsive over email?

PS - I told him that you referred me!

My FI is a professional DJ. He worked with a huge company for years but decided to stop making them money and make himself money. Therefore, he has started his own business, Deluxe Productions. Feel free to check him out. He is great and inexpensive due to the fact that he does everything and not paying extra costs that bigger companies charge. His website is www.deluxeprod.com
He will answer any questions you have and meet with you before your wedding (at your conveinence) so you can see if you want to book him.

I had issues with Andy's responsiveness.  Also, when we finally scheduled an appointment to meet, he stood me up.

I ended up using Melody and I don't regret that one bit!

We debated between Melody and Andy as well, as Andy was cheaper. Melody originally quoted me $900 for a 4 hour reception, took $100 off because I was a knottie, and then when I told her it was between her and Andy, and he was $600 vs. $800, she took another $100 off to make it $700. I was willing to pay the extra $100 for Melody because we just jived better, though I liked Andy as well. And because of the caterer mess, it was $100 well spent to have her there

Brianna, I've heard that he hasn't been that great about responding. I didn't have that trouble. I hate that all the vendors I'm reccommending are giving people such a hard time. I wonder if it's because we are in the middle of wedding season and that's why he's taking a minute to get back to you. Although, he really shouldn't waste too much time!

Donna, I can't believe that he stood you up! Now, I'm starting to worry.

Renee, I wouldn't worry too much as Summer used him and had no troubles (and said that she's seen him DJ for proms before that were great).
It might have been a fluke with me, but I was put off that he didn't even bother calling after it happened to apologize until about a week later.  Note that I called him several times during the scheduled meeting time and left a couple of voicemails (mostly because I was starting to get worried that he had an accident or something!)

There's got to be more than 2 DJs out there... I guess I'll have to schedule some meetings! I'll let you know what I find. Thanks for the input everyone!

tam427, did you see this post from a while back? It might have most of the same DJs mentioned, but there might be a new one or two. It's funny that one of the DJ's website was mentioned ... I thought a lot of them had unattractive websites! But in person most of the DJs I've met with have been nice. That might be why I haven't decided on just one yet :)

There are definitely more than 2 DJ's, but it's hard to find ones in the price range you've mentioned.

I can recommend tons of DJ's in the $1200-$2000 range.

Wow, Donna, that seems excessive for a DJ!  I totally understand that my budget limits my choices, and that Melody might be the best quality for my $$.  I am definitely going to contact her, and a couple others I found on Wedding Wire. In Motion DJ was just over $500 so I'll at least contact them.

Marie- thanks for the link!! Very helpful.

Tam - the In Motion DJ should only be $440 for a 4 hour reception per his website...
