Marc Samuels Jewlery-Frisco

Did anyone get their rings there?

FI and I did, and they're supposed to be a really high end Jewlery retailer (their prices sure reflect that!), but their service does not. We have had nothing but crappy service.

I've already had a small stone fall out of my setting, and we took it and got it replaced and that was Sunday. Today, I noticed the same little stone is not in there straight and it's probably going to come out again! It's hard to describe without a picture, but I have a Tacori style ring with a lot of  round and princess cut small stones in the setting. I took it to another guy I know who repairs jewlery and he took one look at it and said that it's because it's set in white gold, it should have been set in Platinum. He claims anything with a setting that has that many little stones should be set in Platinum. Well..that's great to know now...would have been better to know when we bought the ring, because with the wedding coming up in 8 weeks we can't afford to spend $1000k+  to get it re-set.

I just find it hard to believe that every ring my style is set in Platinum. These are VERY popular right now, and I know they have them at every price range.

Does anyone else have a Tacori style ring set in white gold? have you had problems with stones being loose or falling out, or is this guy just trying to sell me on Platinum?

I'm sure we will get it re-set, just not right now. So then we are trying to decide whether to keep taking it to Marc Samuels for service...or somewhere else...because we have lifetime warranties at Marc S. So we either keep taking our rings to Marc Samuels and get bad service for free, or we take it somewhere else and get better service, less frequently because when they fix it hopefully they'll fix it right, and pay for it...

I'm torn. Undecided

Suggestions on everything are welcome....

Sorry to hear about your experience.

I know that platinum prong settings are in fact the strongest, but tons of rings have white gold settings.  I can't imagine that your setting would necessitate that you use platinum.

Could you take it to an independent home-town type jeweler for a second opinion?

Until you get the ring reset, and because you have a warranty at Marc Samuels, I would continue to go there to get it fixed. If they are anything like Zales, if I go anywhere else my warranty is voided, this may happen to you. Just suck it up until you can afford to get it reset.

OH, somehow I totally missed the warranty part.   Is there another location in Dallas/Ft Worth that you might be able to take it to?

    Tiffany-

All they have is the Frisco location, and their outlet in Grapevine. One man owns both locations. From reading reviews online it seems like several people are unhappy. :( Not good. I mean people have stories about them putting fake gold in their rings when they're sized, and things of that nature. I wish we would have read those reviews before we purchased there. Too late now.

And I was thinking the same thing about white gold. I think that it's more common than Platinum simply based on cost. I know Platinum is at an all time low right now because of the cost of gold, but ordinarily Platinum is 2-3x the price of gold.

I thought they were going out of business?  No?

I only ask because I work not far from there and we peeked in there one time prior to getting engaged.  We only went because they had a "going out of business" sale.

    Weird.

I wish you tons of luck!  :)

PS - James bought my ring at Robins Brothers (pic in Bio) and it's white gold.  I've had zero problems with it...knock on wood.

    Kelly-

The store that they had in Highland Village closed. That was Marc's 3rd location. He had a stroke, and sold the stores to other people...I think that's when they went downhill.

    Oh... well that makes sense.

I really hope they are able to fix it for you... for real.  Just keep on them.

My ring is made up of 24 little stones, I've had a few fall out already, but Zales has replaced them no questions asked (as long as I get my ring checked every 6 months)

    It is white gold

I have 120 tiny little diamonds in my E-ring and wedding band.  My ring is platinum and was custom made but our jeweler told Ben that at some point, I can probably plan on one of the stones coming out.  He'll replace them for free.  Sure hope he never goes out of business!

Anyway, it can happen whether it's platinum or not is all I'm saying.

    *lurker comes out*

My FI is actually good friends with owner/manager there. I haven't had any problems with my ring. Sorry to hear about your experience though and that i'm not of any good advice

Is your ring pave set or channel set?

I have a pave set ring with tiny diamonds in white gold custom made.  I had one little diamond fall out when I first got it resized, then after the jeweler "fixed" it, it hasn't happened again.

I have actually heard that for pave set bands, white gold is better suited than platinum.  But either way, a well made piece shouldn't have too many issues with loose stones unless you're always banging it up against something, knocking them loose.

    Donna-

It's Pave and channel. Hard to describe without a picture, like I said. Sorry. It's got round pave, and some princess channel.

    Stephie,
I agree that stones fall out, it happens no matter what metal the ring is set in. Of course our warranty replaces diamonds for free for the life of the ring also. But, I shouldn't have to be going in there to have it fixed again, when I just took it in 5 days ago..you know what I mean? One falling out every 6 months or a year is one thing. After 5 days? Not so much. Free replacement or not, after a while it will become a convenience issue if I'm back in there every few months.

    lurker too :)

I'm not going to be of much help as far as the ring or MS goes.. but I just got my ring sized at Griffin Jewelry in McKinney and had AMAZING customer service.
It's a little hole in the wall place off of Virginia and 75 in that Brookshire's shopping center.
