After Party?

So, visiting the FI atm, and he lives with his 2 best friends (also BM & other GM) and his BM's gf. His BM approached me about an hour ago & asked me how long and what time of day our wedding is planning on being and I told him 1pm-5pm on a Sunday.

He then asked if we were planning on having an after-party? Is this normal? FI & I are already having to pay for everything. I do not and will not have the funds to do an after-party too. The wedding is OOT for over 90% guests, but still. If you guys did have an after party, who paid for it?! He goes, "Oh well there doesn't have to be alcohol (even though he's a big drinker) but just some place to go and hang out..." But I know how he is so I know it involves alcohol or a bar or whatever. Are there any bars even open on a SUNDAY?!

Please advise!

When I was a bridesmaid in a wedding they had an after party at the G's moms house. They provided the alchohol and snacks.

For our wedding, we plan on telling a few people that we will probably go eat in the hotel bar, if they want to come by they can, if not no biggie. (This gets you off the hook for paying.)

I don't think after parties are so common they are expected. It's completely up to what the B & G what to do after the wedding! Some couples leave right away on a honeymoon. Some that have daytime weddings have a quiet dinner with just their parents. Some couples are looking forward to the alone time afterward or are just plain tired.

We hadn't arranged anything ahead of time because we thought we might be tired (our reception went until midnight), but since H was having so much fun, he ended up telling everyone we were going to our favorite karaoke bar afterward. People came and bought their own drinks. It was fun, but not necessary at all.

We're not having one either, but like MarieSD mentioned, if it turns out no one's done having fun, I think an impromptu move where everyone is on their own is fair!

I certainly wouldn't expect an afterparty for a Sunday wedding.

Our reception is set to end around 8:30, and FILs are hosting a party at their hotel for the adults, and FI and I are planning on just telling our friends to meet us at a bar down the street.  We're not doing anything fancy (read: not paying for anyone's booze), but we're regulars at the bar, so we're going to talk to the manager and see if he can at least reserve some tables for us or give us a discount.

Honestly, the thought had never entered our heads until we visited some friends in Charleston two years ago.  We were at a bar downtown and in walked a bride and groom.  They were actually on their way to the reception, not at the end, but they'd met at that bar, so they wanted some pics there.  It was adorable.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking we'll go this route. I'm not familiar with the Denton/Lewisville area for bars and we don't dance so I don't think a "club" is ideal. It would mostly be the FILs and GMs probably since my family and most friends are very conservative in that aspect. Paying for everything ourselves is stressful enough.

IDK how old you are or anything but Lucky Lous on Fry Street is pretty neat. I'm not a huge fan of fry street, but I like that bar a lot.

My Saturday evening reception ended at 11 PM; we were still in a partying mood so a group of us went to Pete's Piano Bar in Addison. It was my H and I, MOH and her BF, GM and his GF, and 4 of my cousins with their significant others. H and I didn't cover anyone's outing--if I remember correctly, we maybe only bought 2 of the many beers we drank. Nobody expected us to cover the event, if was more of just a normal night out atmosphere than anything else.

I just turned 30 yesterday and FI is 32 - more than old enough to go to a bar. :) I'll look it up. Thanks.
