[QUOTE]Steph -- I think it has to do with how many people you invite. When we were talking about registries they told us to register for at least 600-700 items cause our guest list was 400+ people. With bridal showers, engagement, and wedding there are a lot of things people can apparently get you.

Yeah, I see your point there and I was actually feeling a little bad about judging the amount of gifts she registered for, even though her guest list is about 200.  But then I saw she registered for $23,000 in items at Neiman's, so I'm not really feeling guilty anymore.  :)

Also, B&M stands for b!tch and moan.

Steph - My family does mostly cash too. It's totally awesome. However, my philosophy on registering was go big! It doesn't hurt you, so why not? People have the choice to buy it or not buy it, so it doesn't matter how much or how little you actually register for. We registered for quite a bit at all 3 places and I'm glad, because with so much cash and gift cards we received, it made shopping easier later on. Plus, some places give deep discounts to the couple after the event date, so that helped too.

I love Neimans! If there had been one in KC where my inlaws live, I would have totally registered there!

A friend of mine was asking on facebook about charity donations in lieu of a registry.  I think a lot of people told her to register anyway so when people inevitably buy gifts they'll be things that she and her fiance like.  Makes sense, right?  But then I look at the registry and see lots and lots of things, almost all pricey.  Maybe the intention is to drive people to the charity donation link, but I just found it puzzling to see her eschewing the idea of a registry and then registering for things that are not very practical and generally quite expensive.

Confession:  I've never been in Neiman's.  Not that I'd be able to buy anything if I did.

    Mariah,
I went to Neiman's once when it was Clinique gift time.  That's the only time I bought anything.  I think I've walked through the one at Willowbend to get through the rest of the mall but that's it.

Neiman's only accepts Neiman's charge or American Express.  The only time I've shopped at Neiman's (proper) was to buy FMIL Chanel makeup brushes, which I had to go to the bank to get cash for because I don't use American Express... talk about slightly awkward.

Now Neiman's Last Call, I love that store.  And they take Mastercard :)
