My (ongoing) experience with Myregistry.com

OK, so we registered. It was a hard decision, because we don't really want a whole lot, and we didn't want to do a blanket registry on one store. We decided to go with Myregistry.com and cherry pick the few things we want. It did seem like a great idea, and I still think it is, but the execution is far from perfect.

We added all the gifts to the registry, that was no problem (although I do have an issue with them charging for their iphone app….). You install the "add to my registry" button, and it's a breeze.

The problems arrive once you actually make the registry public. If you DON'T want to know who got you what, then you're in luck. But if you do, it's a little more complicated. For me, the registry only records some of the names of those who purchased the gifts, some others (most of them) appear as "unidentified visitor". I suspect that even the same person visiting twice might show as unidentified half the times!!!

I am conservative, so I tried it out myself, I added items I needed to the registry and then I purchased them through myregistry, following the steps. I did see the problem, so I emailed them (very nice customer service, I have to say) and apparently I had initially made the mistake of deactivating the "sign my guestbook" feature, which is what tracks the visits, and the online help told me that my cookies were all messed up. So I cleared those, added the sign the guestbook feature and tried again. It worked. OK, time to make it public….ta-da! Only about 40% of my gifts appear as purchased by identified persons. I probably placed 6 trouble tickets on this, to no avail.

The temporary solution is placing a disclaimer as a welcome message. Did we like this? Not really, but I couldn't see another fix. I'm not sure what to do with the unidentified gifts. For now I'm hoping that the purchasers got them sent to their house and therefore will be identified once they bring the stuff.

They are still really trying to help, fingers crossed that this issue is resolved (in time for our wedding, we're getting married in two months!!!)!
I'll keep you posted if you're interested.

Re: My (ongoing) experience with Myregistry.com

  • I wouldn't worry about it.  More than likely they'll bring the gift with a card.

FWIW, I didn't much care for myregistry.com.  It has a lot of bugs.  I ended up pretty much just telling my guests to use it as a guide for what we wanted and they purchased the gifts elsewhere.
  • Every gift I got in the mail had a slip in it that identified the person who bought it.  remember the gifts don't come from myregistry, they come from the individual stores.  Each individual store usually identifies the biller.  Also, most people wrote little notes on the gift reciept anyway.  Don't worry about it.  When you get the gift, you can always call the store and ask what the billing address is.
  • Thank you all!!
    This is very helpful!

We already feel pretty weird about even having a registry. If we had to have it, we really wanted to make sure we had only items we really really wanted, so the myregistry seemed like the perfect solution....pity that it doesn't work well.

I might just deactivate the silly not working guestbook feature and assume people will add a card or something.

    :)
  • Yes...Theresa is right. I just started receiving my first gifts from my myregistry.com list and they all have slips in them that tell me who the gift giver is.
