Re-Registering

I had a shower this weekend, and I had limited most of my registry stuff to Cookware/Fiestaware/kitchen gadgets/some nice serveware/giftware type things at a variety of price points. I honed the list down to things I really really wanted rather than upgrading everything, because I didn't want to receive say a bunch of sheets and pillows that I already have when my salad spinner is busted and I don't have a chip and dip.

Well, my family and friends are extremely generous and the vast majority of things on the registry were bought - I've only got about 18 items left. I was thinking, as much as I'd like cash, maybe I should also now take a little time and pick out some nice sheets and upgrade type things that can be stored and pulled out later - I know some people only give boxed gifts, and while some will surprise me (I had some amazing off registry gifts at my shower) some people will want guidance. But will it look weird or greedy that I'm adding vitrually a second tier of gifts to my registry after the fact?

Re: Re-Registering

  • I think it's fine. We went back and added a few items after my showers on one registry that was getting a little depleted. We also were constantly adding/updating our registries before the wedding. If we saw a new salad bowl, for example, that we liked better than the one we originally registered for, and no one had bought it yet, we switched them out. If we were browsing online and realized we forgot to register for something, we added it.

  • Oh we added and edited all the time, especially after showers. Only truly crazy registry-stalkers would even notice.

  • Yep.  What everyone else said.  My fiance and I are actually planning on sitting down together next week after my shower to see what's left on the registries and what we can add.  Pretty much everything that we would add would be either upgrades or things that we don't really need (but want).

  • We did the same thing.  It's practical more than anything. And it's what I always tell people to do.  Can you imagine if you started with a registry twice as big and got sheets, some pots, some pans and 1/4 of your china instead of getting say all of your pots, all of your pans.... it's really just a way to get what you need first and then move on to getting what you want.
  • Wonderful! Thanks Everyone!

  • We are going to have to do the same thing. My shower was today and we got so much of what we registered for that we are going to re register for some things that we didn't in the first place. I believe I will have two more showers and we really don't have much other than small inexpensive kitchen gadgets or a couple large expensive appliances.
