Destination Wedding

We are having our DW in Hawaii, it will just be the two of us on the beach. We are  planning a reception for both families and friends upon our return. To register or not is the question.

Re: Destination Wedding

  • You can, but I wouldn't advertise the registry anywhere.  If someone asks, you are free to say that you've made a registry, but putting it on any kind of wedding website is going too far.  This reception isn't a wedding reception - that ship has sailed.  It's really just a celebratory party so you should really not go in expecting gifts.

For what it's worth, we had a 12 person desitnation wedding and a large AHR a month later.  We registered quietly for about twenty things at BBB.  We only told those who asked about the registry (maybe a handful did) but we got almost everything off our registry plus a lot of cash.

From reading around here, it seems like some AHRs don't really have gifts and others have them.  I'd err on the side of not upsetting your guests and keeping the registry on the DL.  You'll probably still get gifts and it's very easy to find registries these days with Google.
  • I agree with PP.  Go ahead and register for a handfull of things (don't make the 275 gift registry we did) and don't put it on your website or anything.  People will find it or they will ask if they want to give you something.  I've never been to an AHR but I'm pretty certain I would feel like I needed to give the couple a gift.
