Registry for just one item?

My fiance and I are just beginning to discuss where we'd like to register, and for what. We've decided on Target for general householdey things, Crate and Barrel for bedding and more "fabric goods," and Macy's/JC Penney's for whatever's leftover. Here's the kicker, though-- For our everyday dinnerware, we found a Corelle dinner set that we simply LOVE! Unfortunately Target, which carries some Corelle patterns, doesn't carry this one. Would it be appropriate to register at Walmart (which does carry this particular pattern) or at Corelle's website, simply for the one item? Or should we just omit everyday dinnerware, register for our nicer china/formal dinnerware, and purchase the everyday set we want with any cash gifts we may receive?-MP

Re: Registry for just one item?

  • I wouldn't register for just one item. Just use the money you get to buy it. PS, Amazon has lots of Corelle on it - that's where I bought some of mine and it was a lot cheaper than BBB.
  • Ditto.  I seems really pointless to set up an entire registry for one item.  What happens if a guest goes to Walmart to buy you a gift without checking online first and discovers the one item has already been purchased?  I would be pissed. If you really want it, just buy it for yourself.
  • Go ahead and register at Walmart too. Add some more things that you would like. You can even leave a spot for registering for giftcards too if you register online.
  • You might look at an Amazon registry.  Almost everything from Target is available through Amazon.  In addition, an Amazon registry allows you to add any item you can find online, not just those available through Amazon.  Thus, you can keep your entire online registry in one place, and can add items from different stores even if there is not much at any one store that you want.
