  • Yeah... we all want money and I think a majority of our guests did give us cash/checks which is very generous.  But you can't ask for it.  I recommend registering somewhere that has a good return policy & will give you cash.  I've heard that BBB is doing away with the cash refunds so check with them, but as of now you can return BBB gifts for cash. It's not right to ask for a gift at all - registering is only a way of helping people who want to buy you something, get something you like.  Do not ever ask for cash!! And I'm not sure I would even "spread the word" but your parents could let close relatives know that you are saving. There's also registries that let people purchase portions of your honeymoon - you could do that & then the money you saved on the honeymoon could go toward the house.
  • PS hubbie and I both lived on our own for 10 years.  We registered for nicer, newer versions of the stuff we both already had... sold some of our old stuff on ebay... and donated the rest to a shelter that was very happy to have a full set of slightly worn dishes, silverware, bowls, etc.  You might already have everything but it's nice to pick out new stuff together.  If you don't need it you can donate your old stuff to people who are less fortunate.
  • There really is no polite way to ask for money. Don't register, and spread the word to family incase anyone asks. If you happen to get a gift you don't want or can't use, accept graciously, thank the giver, and return it!
