Bed Bath Beyond Complaint LONG

Re: Bed Bath Beyond Complaint LONG

  • I work at Bed Bath and Beyond as a bridal consultant... and I HATE when people have this experience!! I firmly believe our company's policy is to be an expert LISTENER above all else, and I have had... literally... full eight-hour classes on how to be helpful and not this terrible variety of pushy you unfortunately experienced. Lots of consultants in my store think a registry that doesn't have fine china reflects badly on the consultant, that they're going to get in trouble for not explaining it well enough. Obviously, if the couple doesn't want it, you don't push back! We also are supposed to assume the bride and groom want a "full escort" around the store... some consultants are good at giving suggestions and being non-intrusive, more like a new friend who happens to know *everything* about the store and its products. Other consultants simply lack the intrapersonal finesse necessary to come off as a hepful guide instead of an annoying salesperson. If the bride and groom say they don't want an "escort" or are clearly bored/annoyed/etc. we are supposed to give a "store tour," where we take them around the major departments to offer our help when they DO need it! It all depends on the couple. I would personally much rather they be happy with their selections-- I often ask, what gifts are you most excited about receiving-- than have the "perfect BBB registry" with exactly twice as many gifts as there are guests, fine and casual china, luggage, every department represented.... etc. If I were you, I would absolutely complain to whoever is the presiding manager on duty... not to get the consultant "in trouble," but so they will be retrained! Bed Bath and Beyond needs to remember they have to earn customers' respect, and customer service needs will vary from couple to couple. P.S. At least at my store, we definitely have no incentives for our couples registering for china, for a million items... sometimes when there's too much china or waaaay too many items, we'll still be interrogated to make sure we weren't too pushy. Maybe some of these crappy BBBs need a bridal/customer service overhaul...
