Wedding shower- is it okay to buy 1 out of a thier 3 set china pattern for someone??

My sister- in law to be registered at Pottery Barn and she requested 3 sets of a certain china pattern.  I ordered one of the sets because  I couldn't afford all 3.  Is that okay?

  • Why wouldn't it be?

  • Most people will purchase one set of china.  Either the couple will complete it by receiving sets from other guests or they can complete it themselves with their completion discount after the wedding.

  • That's fine.

Traditionally, guests might not even buy a full place setting. Our china comes piece-by-piece. We might get just a dinner plate from one guest, just a soup bowl from another, etc.
  • It's absolutely ok!  Unless the parents buy the entire set as a gift, I don't think most couples expect one guest to buy the entire set.  It's usually bought in pieces.  And every piece counts, so while you can't buy it all, that's less the couple will have to buy later.
