We registered for dinnerware at Crate and Barrel but it has now been discontinued. We were in love with the pattern, and are having trouble finding anything we like as much. I want to take it off the registry and find new dinnerware, but I'm having trouble finding something we like and that is in a price point we feel comfortable with. We want something kind of simple and classic that we won't get tired of seeing for years, but that also isn't too plain.
I have thought about registering for a very simple, plain white set that is large enough to use all the time and then also registering for some other more colorful, intricate pieces that I can mix and match with. Like all white dinnerware, but colorful pasta bowls and sassy patterned salad plates. I love decorating for the holidays and seasons, so I think I would want some of these other things anyway. I just worry that it will look awkward or weird to have only 8 red pasta bowls or 8 green patterned plates with the white regualr dishes.
What do you think? Am I over thinking this?
TIA! Kathryn
Re: Dinnerware discontinued...now what?

I would keep it on the registry, but have your mom and BP spread through word of mouth that you and FI really had your hearts set on that dish set and it's being discontinued. That may motivate more people to purchase it for you, plus they may be able to get it on sale since it's being discontinued.

We registered for the rustic white dinnerware. I'm still a student and only working part time so we can't really afford to buy it for ourselves. I think I will leave it on there a little longer. I told my parents about it so hopefully they will start to spread the word. I'll probably also look into a plain white set and some colored pieces. I love to decorate for every excuse possible so I know I would enjoy having things in different colors.
Thanks for the help!
Replacements Ltd has all sorts of discontinued items and they have quite a few Crate and Barrel china patterns. You have to buy each item individually though, and some are really expensive. You could also try looking on ebay or craigslist.
I do like the plain white dishes with the colored accent pieces. Just as an example, here's a place setting from Target that has different patterns on each piece http://www.target.com/Paula-Deen-Country-Dinnerware-Collection/dp/B002BAO990/ref=br_1_43?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=358059011&node=358059011&sr=1-43&searchRank=reviewrank&searchPage=1&searchSize=150&id=Paula%20Deen%20Country%20Dinnerware%20Collection&qid=
and a lot of the Corelle place settings have matching patterns, then just the mug or bowl is a solid color.
