artificial flowers

Hey Ladies
I am wondering if anyone used artificial/silk flowers at their wedding and what their thoughts were? Also, would you recommend the vendor you used?

I am meeting with an artifical floral vendor next week and still on the fence on using silk flowers vs. real ones.

A Knottie from a while back used silk and she said that, in the end, she didn't really save the amount of money she thought she was going to. 

I myself is one of those who thinks there is nothing prettier than a real flower.

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding that used fake flowers.  I guess they were fine.  You can definitely tell in the pics that they aren't real.  She works for Michael's corporate offices, so I think she just bought them there.

TBH, I think you'd get better value if you a) bite the bullet and use a florist or b) DIY real flowers.  One of the Nesties did her flowers from Sam's and they looked great.  That said, I am not a DIY girl, so I can't speak to how difficult it would be to keep those flowers looking great.

Ditto to PP. I am planning on going to Central Market or Sams a few days before and doing all my flowers. Granted 'all' only means 5 bouquets, and loose bunches of baby's breath in the centerpieces. That's all the flowers we are doing.

I can see using artifical flowers if you have allergy problems.  We probally should, but for an afternoon, we'll be ok with allergy meds.

I'm going the central market route as well.  We're going to end up spending about 300.00 on loose flowers but 300.00 gets you quite a lot believe it or not!  I think it just depends on how structured you want your bouquets or centerpieces to be.  For me, it was more important to have lots of flowers then to have structured/assembled pieces.

What is your budget for flowers? I love real flowers and they're lots of options for different budgets. If you have a ballpark estimate somebody can probably point you in the direction of a good florist.

The only time I might use fake flowers is if they are in one of those water vases and nobody can touch them to check!

I really appreciate your honesty.  My mom keeps hooding me about using fake flowers but something inside me doesn't seem to be right. And I also heard that the fake ones are just as expensive as the real ones.  I met with Dr. Delphinium and they are working with my budget of about 1,500- 2 k but I am going to do some price shopping next week.

My floral budget was around this and I think everything looked gorgeous.  We went with Out of the Garden, and they did a really great job of keeping the floral arrangements minimal, but still really interesting.  I can send you some pics of their work from my wedding if you're interested.

I agree, that's a GREAT flower budget. We are spending 300 max on flowers, and buying them the week of (I think... if we don't go with an online wholesaler).

PS: Allergies are typically caused by pollen, and most florists remove the anthers from their flowers because the pollen can cause stains.

Have you considered dry flowers? It's something I'm considering just because they're still pretty and still real...just a different kind of look. I can't think of the original site that I was looking at, but here's an example:

They also have several vendors who sell them on Etsy, but it still isn't what I would consider cheap.
