Weird Registry Items

I was looking at an acquaintance's registry today, and apparently they scanned a jar of pickles. haha.

What kinds of weird things have you seen on registries or have put on your own?

Re: Weird Registry Items

  • I wonder if the pickles and moon pies were on there because at some stores when you buy non-registry items they magically appear on the registry at the time of purchase.  This happened with our Crate & Barrel registry.  Or they actually did register for that stuff! I'm sure it's not the strangest thing ever seen on a registry.  Pickles would make more sense on a baby registry.  :)

  • I've seen people register for baby things, who weren't even prenant at the time of the wedding.

  • I'm going to a wedding December 17th and the bridal couple registered for a back scratcher, anti-static dryer balls, rubber gloves, hangers, and window washer with an attached squeegee.

  • So far just random tumbler cups (just one of each not even two of the same which would drive me nuts as I like matching sets lol)....and a Tampa Rays Raymond pillow...they are both rays fans but this is like a KIDS THING

  • I had a friend who registered for over 800 items including: two electrc griddles, vase filler rocks, 4 sets of 12 cloth napkins, back scratcher, 3 sugar and creamer sets...  It was out of control.

  • I went to a shower last year and the groom had registered for DOTS the candy... needless to say he must have gotten 40 boxes of DOTS because everyone thought they were unique/funny and bought them.

  • Underwear, socks, cat food, Dawn dish soap.

They are a really weird, socially awkward couple in general. I honestly wasn't THAT surprised when looking at their registry for the first time.
  • rogaine . . . it was on an amazon registry.

I never did check if anyone went back and bought it for them.

If that was at Target, it was a fluke because their stupid scanguns hold onto items. Like, when you make your registry you might get the stuff from the people before you by accident.
  • my cousin and his now bride were registering at bed bath and beyond and my cousin was getting bored and playing with the scan gun.  he scanned an ugly wooden toilet seat and his fiance never realized.  she was a little surprised when months later at her work bridal shower she received the ugly wooden toilet seat as a present. hehe!

my other cousin also got overzealous with the scan gun and registered for pistachios.

  • I'm tempted to register for cleaning fluids. After all, they're household items we will use together in the first year of marriage. Also, I'm very particular about my dish soap. When you don't have a dishwasher, it's important it works very well.

Strangest thing I've seen was just machine-made wine glasses that were $30 each.

  • My H got a hold of the scanner at BB and scanned candy, soup mixes and popcorn seasoning.  I could've taken them off, but he said most of the other stuff we registered for he didn't care about so I left it on. My cousins' wife bought it all for our shower gift!
  • At BBB they tried to get us to register for a soda maker. I thought it was weird; I think of registeries as practical, and that doesn't sound super practical.
  • My Target registry gave us a headache with this exact problem.

We would scan something, and the description the scanner gave of the item is not what we scanned.

Meaning - we'd scan a towel, and it would show that we scanned a bar of soap.

Maybe some of these random requests had the same problem?  Although, I don't put it past anyone to register for some of these things!

uggg, my H wanted one of those and I had to say no to that one! I agree, not practical AT ALL.
  • By far the worst registries I have seen are the "wish registries" I just looked at one where the couple (who has 4 other registries, BTW) registered for money to be used toward: Student Loan money, plane tickets for their honeymoon, a future family fund, wedding rings, a new dog, money for the casino, gym membership, massages, manicures/pedicures.....and the list continues. Wish registries are by far the tackiest thing that ever existed!
  • Weird, I've never heard of a wish registry before.  Interesting.

    Wiscisbliss: 800 items?  That's insane!
  • My friend's husband registered for a 12 pack of beer and an xbox! lol

I also had a groom friend who registered for sexy lingerie behind his fiance's back (she's super shy and conservative)...she was SURPRISED when she got it at the shower and was blushing...then we said "it was on your registery" and she was like "WHAT?! I'm going to kill him."  It was a funny moment all around because although lingerie is a normal bridal shower gift, she never would have asked for it on her own!

This is insane.  I wouldn't have even looked through all 800 items.  I think it is safe to say whatever was at the end of their registry never showed up as gifts.
  • One of my friends registered for the 'Ped Egg'-- that foot-filing gizmo.  I thought that was sort of strange and overy personal.

My cousin and her husband registered for toilet paper . My aunt saw it first and immediately called everyone and told everyone she could to make sure to buy a pack for them. All of us had bets going on how many packs they would get. IMO they were smart. I hate spending money on something i flush down the toilet- even the cheap stuff!
