Duvet

Hello!

At our last shower, we received a great Duvet Cover and Sham Set. My entire life, I've always just used different comforters (no duvet, but always wanted one). So yesterday we went to Macy's to ask what kind of "filler" we are supposed to buy. The girl we talked to was new (first day) so she pointed us toward the down comforters and said that those should work. I purchased one with a gift card because it was on sale, but I don't want to open it yet. My question is...is this what you do with a Duvet Cover? Just use it to cover a plain white down (down alternative) comforter, and call it good? Or are there specific comforters that work with a Duvet Cover?

Thanks!!

I dont have a duvet but i think ypur right. I always thought of them as a pillow case for your blanket. Lol
  • Yes, a duvet cover is for a down comforter.

  • You're exactly right.  You cover the down comforter with it.  My husband calls it a pillow case for the comforter.

If you haven't bought the comforter, they make some that have buttons or snaps in the corners.  You can choose duvet covers that have the same, and it keeps them from bunching.
  • You can cover any comforter with a duvet, it does not have to be a solid white down comforter. I had a comforter that was not patterned and just a tan color on the back side and I stuffed that into a duvet for a really long time.

The key is to make sure if you have an existing comforter that a pattern doesn't show through the fabric.

  • I had a beautiful comforter that was very fluffy and I spilled like a bottle of nail polish on it... Now it lives in a duvet cover :)

Also... I use safety pins inside the duvet at the four corners to keep the comforter from bunching. I wouldn't suggest this if you have small children, but it works great for me right now.

Oy, that girl had no idea what she was doing.  You can have a down or down alternative duvet.  She should have also explained the different levels of warmth in a duvet you can get.  If you get hot and sweaty at night your not going to want a heavy weight duvet.  Also, you'll want baffle box construction so the filling keeps even and doesn't shift around.
  • Make sure you get duvet clips to hold your duvet in place so it doesn't shift around. That's one thing I always found annoying. Then you have to get into your douvet cover like a child on a daily basis to put the corner back in the corner lol.

I love duvets though they are so fluffy and I love to sleep in fluffyness!
