FI had a question...

He asked if it would be okay to register for a new bed.  I had no clue what to say.

Thoughts?

  • I'm never a big fan of registering for big furniture.

  • I'd be uncomfortable putting such an expensive gift on a registry... because it's pretty much a public wish list. I don't think there's anything "wrong" with it exactly. But super expensive gifts just make me a tad uncomfortable. I see that as something that could be a group gift from family more privately.
  • I think people might think that's too big of an item to put on a registry.

  • Please don't...
my sister in law told us to register for a new bed... because even if we don't get it we can get that discount after we are married.

I think that is way to obnoxious. i would never register for something big. PLUS who is going to want to bring that to the shower or the wedding ;)

I know, you could put a picture of it and have it in the card, but honestly?

    no. thanks.

  • I would put it on at the end-- like the day before or a couple of days after the wedding. That way you can get your registry completion discount on it, but people aren't looking at it all the time when they go to your registry thinking, 'Huh? They registered for a bed??'

To me, it would be silly to pay full price for it if you can get it for 10% off or whatever. And if I saw it on someone's registry, I would think they were doing it for exactly the reason I just said.
  • Family could maybe let people know you want to get a new bed and have your eye on one at X store, or if people ask you about decorating you could say there is the awesome bed at  X store you are saving up for/waiting to go on sale and maybe they will get the hint and give you gift certificates to the store or just plain old cash.  But unless you have really rich friends/relatives that's a registry item that probably won't get purchased and probably will get talked about.
