Plus Size Wedding Dress

Does anyone know a store that carries alot of plus size samples? I'm having a hard time finding samples or dresses to try on.

I'm not totally sure, but I want to say the Bridal Co in Denton had quite a few--I'd call ahead to be sure

CJ, I think Mockingbird Bridal had a section of plus size dresses.

Try Mii's in Dallas at Casa Linda Plaza.  They're great and they have lots of plus size dresses.

FYI......I'm not sure if they have a new store or just recently moved down the street but I saw Mii's Bridal Salon on Garland Rd between Easton and Centerville.

    Kris,
That's good to know.  The next time I'm over visiting my mom and dad, I'll drive by and check it out.  There was a lot of construction at Buckner and Garland last year and at Casa Linda itself so I'm wondering if they decided to move for those reasons alone.

I went to Mii's last weekend... they did move.  They haven't changed the address on their site yet.  We passed it on the way, but weren't sure if they had two stores so we kept driving to the address on the site. We called and learned that was their new store.  They had an ok selection of plus size.

I did find a decent (mind you not many stores other then maybe Alfred Aneglos or Davids have large plus size selections) selection at Lewisville Bridal, Dention Bridal Co, and Terry Costa.

I had a horrible day of dress shopping. I went to Mockingbird Bridal today. I had scheduled an appointment and when I walked in the lady who was suppose to be helping me was " assisting a bride who had been there before ". So I had to fend for myself until a greeter was finally able to help me. They have a total of 5 plus size dresses. Then they stuck me in a fitting room in a cramped hall and while I was changing into a dress, I was informed that it was someone elses fitting room and they wanted their veils.  I thought for the prices I would of had better service, but no. The greeter lady was nice and told me about Mii's too.

I left and went to Mii's. It did move and it took me a little bit to find it. They had more dresses(maybe 30), but nothing that I felt I wanted to try on. I want a simple dress. When I was leaving, a sales lady would not let me out of the store. She kept asking me questions about my wedding. When I told her what I wanted, she told me I would not look good in that type of dress. Everything I said I wanted in a dress, she kept saying oh no oh no.

I litterally wanted to cry when I left.

Aww...I'm sorry! Maybe try the Bridal Company in Denton and Terry Costa--I liked them better than the more boutique stores.

I'm so sorry you had such a bad day of dress shopping!

I didn't have the best of experience at Mii's either, I told the saleperson things I liked and didn't like about dresses (like that I didn't want the overlay look) and she kept showing me that type of dress.  I reminded her that I wasn't looking for that type of dress and she just kept saying "but it's such a beautiful dress".  I tried on one dress there, and then asked them the price of the dress I really wanted Mori Lee 2306.  They couldn't give me a price right then, and told me they would call me.  It's been over a week and I still haven't heard from them.  I thought that was pretty weird.

Sorry for rambling but I hope you have a better experience at Denton Bridal Co or Terry Costa if you try them.  I ended up ordering my dress last weekend at Terry Costa (during a trunk show, so 20% off) and really had a good time there.

    CJandML,
I just read this, and wanted to cry.  I'm newly engaged and have been worried about dress shopping... I litteraly dont want to dress shop at all (can I walk down the isle in jeans?!)  I have a bunch of dresses I would love to try on, and hopefully one of them will be "the" dress for me, but I have a huge fear that none of them will even come in my size.
I'm especially upset to hear about your bad experience at Mockingbird Bridal, as I know someone who works there. But I'm not surprised to hear they have a small selection of plus size gowns.  BUT one store I KNOW has plus size gowns (a good selection of them too!) is Terry Costa in Dallas.  I have been there in the past with friends, and they have some beautiful gowns in larger sizes. I even tried on a Christina Wu dress while I was there!
I would check out Terry Costa, hopefully you have better luck there!

Good Luck! I know you will find your dream dress soon!

I wonder if we did?!  The one dress I tried on she kept telling me how the style would flatter my figure more then the one I was telling her I wanted.

I'm sorry you girls had such a bad time at Mii's because that was not my experience at all.  However, my experience on a previous shopping trip to Terry Costa wasn't a very good one in my opinion so I guess it's one of those "On any given day" kind of things.  I wish you both good luck on your search!!!

I am not sure what your budget is or if you are willing to go to Fort Worth for a dress, but I had an AWESOME experience at Bliss Bridal. They carry an entire collection (The Reserve) which is just for plus size brides. After my (terrible) experiences at David's and various other small shops, I was blown away by their service.

I have been lurking for awhile, but identified with your story and had to post!

I'm going to have to make an appointment at Bliss. I looked online and they only had a handful of dresses. Do you remeber what the price ranges were for the reserve collection? I met them at the Fort Worth Bridal Show and she mentioned that they ran about $4,000. I didn't know if that was one dress or if that was her price range for all of her dresses.

CJ – I asked the owner to pull dresses under $1,000 for me and she showed me about 15-20 larger sized dresses, 10 of which I chose to try on. The dress I ended up loving was between $850-$900. There were probably 20 more plus size dresses that were over $1000, so they have a pretty large collection.  On the less expensive end of the spectrum, I also tried on dresses at Bridal Dreams in Fort Worth. The shop had 10-15 dresses to try on in larger sizes, they were having a big sale on the samples…some were even as low as $399. The owner was kind, just a little brisk. I did like that the shop carried Mori Lee in plus sizes.   Hope this helps!

I had the same thing happen to me at Mockingbird last Summer when I went!  I found a couple that might have worked, but after the service I got there was no way I was going to get my wedding dress there.  I went to Ocone's in Fort Worth, and I felt like a princess!  They are soooo nice, and had a great selection for me to try on!

    Jenna-I'll try them. :)

I went to Bliss today and found two AMAZING dresses, but i'm not quite sure if I want to max out my budget for wedding dress just yet. I want to think about it for a little bit.
