You Wish You Had...

I'm sure this question has probably been asked before, but I haven't yet found it so I'll ask here. If you've recently gone through a wedding and are now a happily wedded wife...are there things you find yourself wishing you had registered for? My fiance and I are getting married in three months, and just closed on a house...and I'm clueless when it comes to registering. Can you help me out? What are the things you didn't expect to need, but you actually do?

Re: You Wish You Had...

  • I haven't gotten married yet, but right now I'm dying to get one of those over the toilet organizing cabinet things. Our bathrooms are TINY so if we had more space utilized on the wall it would help out a lot.

Just go to a BBB and look around. I feel like that store is set up for wedding registries. We found a lot of stuff while walking around that we realized would be AWESOME to have.

  • A big food processor.  I registered for (and recieved) a small one.  It is awesome and I would be able to use a large one much more often.

I love my cake stand, nice sheets, and big bath towels.

  • I would be really bummed if I just bought a house, just had a wedding, and still needed a vacuum.  That's the type of thing that's kind of a bummer to shell out money for.
  • We had everything that we needed.  What we are really glad we registered for anyway:

    Two new towel sets
    Roasting Pan
Calphalon Tri Ply individual pieces (esp. the everyday pan - the name is no joke; we use it almost every single day)
    Big cooling racks
Two new sets of bed sheets
    Dyson vacuum
    Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer
    New conforter set
    Floor lamps and table lamps

Oh -  I did remember one thing that we didn't register for that I bought DH for our first anniversary: A high end electric wok.

  • Wish we would have registered for the Kitchen Aid mixer.

Glad we registered for some upgrades, like dishes, pots & pans, silverware, sheets, etc.

Also glad we registered for our Cuisinart Griddler and a FoodSaver

  • I have had a Kitchen Aid for several years and I love it. I'm registering for extra bowls for it.

  • Do the bowls wear out easily? My mom has had one since the dark ages, and I think she has the original bowl...but I don't know if they make 'em like they used to. My extended family went together and gave me a KitchenAid Mixer (in pistachio...I love it...) and I'm looking at registering for the different extensions for it...

I don't think the bowls wear out, but if you use it for a lot of things, it can be nice to have an extra bowl. Maybe for a Thanksgiving down the road there might be two dishes that need the stand mixer.

I have my grandma's old Kitchen Aide. It still works pretty well, but I am excited about getting a new one! The old glass bowl I have doesnt quite lock in place anymore, and the current mold for bowls has a different shape than the old ones. (this is at least 40 years old!) also the new attachments don't fit. But it's nice to know that if they still make 'em like they used to, I will never need to buy a new one!
  • Haven't gotten married yet but I thought I didn't need anything and wasn't going to register.  But I went through everything on the Crate & Barrel website and found about 40 items I could use!

So my advice is find a couple websites and go through it all and make a list.  You can also go through each room in your home and decide what you still need or what could make it better.
  • I wish I had registered for a blender, it was a complete oversight on my part. The things we love the most that we got were:

    Pots and Pans
    New sheets and towels
    Vacuum Cleaner
    Electric Griddle
    New Silverware
    New Tupperware
    New ceiling fans
    New rugs

We had already bought a house and lived together, but it was nice to be able to upgrade a lot of our belongings. Just wander around BBB and see what catches your eye.

  • FI and I don't have a traditional registry, but we're currently working on getting all the tools of entertaining.  A fondue set, roasting forks for the fire pit, comfy outdoor chairs, and a good set of wine glasses.

I always seem to see the more unusual tools of entertaining left out on registry checklists, so that's something to consider :)
