Gifts for MOB/FOB that already have everything?!!?

My parents are absolutely amazing and I want to get them something special for the wedding.  Not just something to sit around later on and collect dust, but something really meaningful.  The problem is that they honestly already have everything that they need and I am struggling to figure out something so special.

We are of course getting them one of the books of the pictures after the wedding.  But to give them something at the rehearsal dinner, the one thing so far I have come up with is purchasing them golf lessons together (my dad is a big golfer and is always wanting to learn and my mom is now interested in learning).

What all have you all done that was special for your parents?

  • Trust me when I tell you that the thing that would be the most appreciated is a heartfelt letter, perhaps read by you at the RD, expressing your gratitude to your parents...

Say whatever is in your heart....if their marriage gave you a great role model for yours, say so.  If their ability to laugh together through their troubles inspires you, tell them.  If their love and encouragement made you the woman you are today, let them know.

It doesn't have to be long and flowery, just true and sincere.  You can type up a copy in a calligraphic font and frame it as a keepsake.

They will be thrilled and proud.  Way better than golf lessons.
  • I had never heard of parent gifts before TK.  I didn't get either set of parents anything special.  We got married on Mother's Day weekend, and my mom said that that was the best mother's day gift she could ever ask for.

  • Maybe you could write really special notes on the back of some of the wedding photos to make them extra special? I know my mom would love that.

For your dad, I think the golf lessons sound really great for them!

I have been both a MOB and MOG.  Receiving  sincere, thoughtful cards was absolutely the best gift.

A second suggestion I have seen, posted by a bride on one of these boards, is also unique and thoughtful.  Purchase a hinged, two photo frame, something along the lines of this....

On one side, you place a photo of you and your new husband.  On the other side, insert a photo of your parents on their wedding day.  That alone I think is an incredibly sweet gesture.  However, if your folks have the type of marriage to which you aspire, you could include a note as to how you found them to be such  good role models.

  • Tons of cute unique gift ideas! check out http://www.etsy.com/shop/moonstonecreation. it is such a cute shop with tons of handstamped jewelry, bottle openers, military related jewelry, keychains, cufflinks, etc... Makes great wedding gifts for bridesmaids & groomsmen. I really like the key chain with a line from your vows stamped on. My hubby is reminded of our day and our promise everday.
