Home improvement contributions?

My fiance and I are planning to be married in June.  We have been living together for nearly a year now & other than big ticket items, we have everything that we need - the dishes, the cutlery, the linens etc...

We are planning on having a very small ceremony (less than 10 guests) & I don't want to -ask- friends/family members for gifts, as I don't think its acceptable to expect gifts from people you don't invite.

However, there are some (knowingly) univited friends and family members who are still asking for registry/gift ideas and I think it would be equally as rude to not accept.

Would it be acceptable to ask those particular people to contribute to a home improvement fund to help with some big ticket items that we would like to update, such as washer & dryer, furniture, etc??

Comments & thoughts?

  • Ditto PP.  I wouldn't register at all with such a small guest list.
