I am in love with my great-grandmother's china pattern. It is Noritake Charoma, and has been discontinued. I can find it on websites like Replacements and eBay, but they don't sell it in box stores. How can I let my guests who want to purchase a gift know this is the pattern I would like since it won't be on my registry. Also, I am worried that no one will take the time to find it, so should I put a new pattern on my registry even though it is not what I want. I don't think that stores would give me cash refunds, only store credits, so I couldn't return the other china and get what I want. However, china is expensive so if a guest wants to buy the china, I know that would help us out a lot. Any suggestions?
Re: Registering for Discontinued/Vintage China
I'd say register for everything else you want, perhaps a smaller registry so guests take the hint that you'd prefer cash. I think if a close friend or relative approached you about what you want, you could send them to one of those sites requesting a specific object or place setting - just make sure you keep track of what you asked for. While your Aunt may not end up getting you the creamer you asked for, you'd rather that than end up with 4 sugar bowls because every person you told decided to buy those.

Thank you again!
Have you considered registering at Replacements.com? http://replacements.com/info/bridal.htm
Your guests won't be able to buy it in person, but some might be okay with ordering it online.

I didn't know that they had a registry! How cool! Thanks for letting me know!
Replacements is also great for getting (new) fiesta, particularly if the selection in stores near you is low, or you want a specific piece in a specific color.
