Thank You Note Wording - Please Help!

We need to get our thank you notes out this week. I know completely last minute but we were waiting to have cards printed with our wedding pictures. We just got those in the mail and now I need to figure out wording. I have searched on the forum and found a few different options but I guess I have more questions.

For cash gifts something along the lines of "Thank you for the generous gift. It helped tremendously with our honeymoon and we had a great time!" I feel like that kind of sounds silly. I was thinking of including a picture of us on our honeymoon as well to make it a little more personal. Many of our family and friends knew we were specifically looking for cash so we could use the money on our honeymoon. What do you think I should do with this wording?

Also for someone who I am not super close to that did not come to the wedding how should we word it? I don't want it to sound really corny like "I can't wait to see you!". Any suggestions?

And then for a general item like towels or pans or something. "Thank you so much for the air bake pans. We have already used them multiple time and my baking skills have improved greatly! I really appreciate the gift and I can't wait to make you cookies" or something like that. But how do you say thank you for towels? Like "Hey thanks for getting us towels. We use them to dry off after the shower. They work great!" I think I find it a little more difficult because some of the people are good friends (like the towel people) and I think I could have a little fun. Also Salt and Pepper shakers.... "Thanks for the shakers, we have been able to greatly spice up our food." haha.

Just wondering what to do and how to word things. I am generally decent at wording and talking but for some reason I am just having a lot of problems with coming up with wording for our thank you notes.

Re: Thank You Note Wording - Please Help!

  • I wrote a lot of "thanks for sharing in our special day" and thanked every guest specifically for the gifts they gave.

I tend to write and personalize every thank you I give, so they ended up being long notes but it was worth it because of everyone's generosity.

You'll figure something out.  Talk about how your towels match your bathroom decor and you're really excited to have them.  Your guests will be happy with that :)
  • What Edie said.  Also, I would not say things like "We have already used the cookie sheets so many times" if you recently got married.  You're not supposed to use wedding gifts before the wedding, and if you did, I wouldn't broadcast that in case the gift-giver is more traditional.
  • Write it like any other thank you note you write for holiday and birthday gifts.

The wedding already happened. I did not open or use or even cash any checks that came in prior to the wedding. But thank you.

Wow. You are so helpful. Thanks for answering my questions. Maybe you should have read them and actually understood that I was looking for specific wording in specific situations. I know people on here can be rude and unhelpful as I have been a member for several years but at least they aren't responding to comments and just being ridiculous most of the time for the sake of it.

  • And thank you to everyone else for actually helping out. I really appreciate it. :-)

  • I use this format: Sentence One: Thank you for item, Sentence Two: What I like about it, how we will use it, etc., Sentence Three: Something about enjoying seeing them, hoping to see them soon, hope they enjoyed their vacation if I know they just went, etc.  I just read in an advice column that if you're going for a more personal feeling, flip Sentence Three to become Sentence One and go from there.  It makes it seem like you're not just writing them because you "have to."
  • Sorry if you didn't like my response - but haven't you been writing thank you notes for years?  These sort of situations you mention are no different than getting a cash gift for christmas from a relative that you won't see for another 3 years at least.  I think PPs gave you good suggestions, but honestly it might sound a little forced if you don't use wording that comes naturally to you.
