Recieving Gifts before the shower

I just recieved 2 gifts from oot family members that are not able to attend the shower April 21st.

I've gotten one gift, but it wasn't clear what "type" of gift it was. We opened it and sent a thank you note. Haven't decided if we'll use it before the wedding yet, though.

Open now to make sure it is not broken, etc. Send a TY note immediately; however, you should wait to use all wedding gifts until after the wedding.

I have received 5 gifts from people who can not attend.  I've opened them, made sure they were not broken, ect.  One gift was our bathroom cabinet that holds small towels or and other things. It goes above the toilet. Anyway, his aunt bought us that and insisted that we assemble it whenever we got the chance so that our bathroom renovation could be complete (FINALLY!) We are excited to have that be done. So, we broke the etiquette rule on that one.

• What I am planning on doing is bringing the box that it came in and the other gifts that we've received to the shower with me and acknowledging those who gave us the gifts and to let people know that "Aunt Suzy, gave us our wine glasses, but couldn't be here with us all today"
• I also wrote out the Thank You's and sent them already to those who sent the gifts
