Potential Registry Problem!

FI has a KIND of common name, but it wouldn't strike you as such until you look up our registry on BBB.
There is another with his name getting married the same weekend as us, and we just went to a shower for all of his parent's friends (meaning, a lot of them weren't 100% sure of my name), and apparently it caused some confusion.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Potential Registry Problem!

  • This happened to my friend. She just spread the word, through website and word of mouth, that when looking up the registries people should use her now-husband's name which was fairly unique.
  • They're not in the same state, but apparently people still had problems (We have both lived in a couple of different states that are not the state we are getting married in, so people that only vaguely know us may be confused).
Oh, well... I suppose getting gifts is never a true problem. :) It will all work out!

I don't think there is anything you really can do.  We're in the same situation, my FI and I don't have "common" names, yet there at BB&B there are registries by one couple that the groom has FI's name, and another where the bride has my name.  At least BB&B has easy returns!
  • I have a pretty common name, so there were other registries with my name, but not on our wedding date.  The only thing you can do is make sure that the link from your wedding website (if you have one) is to your actual wedding website, instead of just listing BBB as a place where you registered.  If the stuff is all from BBB, it shouldn't be a problem to exchange it, but maybe the other couple has good taste and you'll want some of the stuff :)
  • There was a registry at BBB where the bride and I shared the same name. It was easy to spot who's was whos though because of where we both live (opposite ends of the country) and wedding date (hers this past April and mine this coming Sept.)
